Thai parties...

Post by Vital Spark »

The folk behind us have had a party tonight. It started with testing out the incredibly loud speakers late afternoon - and then the revellers, I guess, arrived. From sundown until 15 minutes ago there was whooping, yelling, and bad singing.

At about 10.45, all went quiet. The music stopped and there's not a sound from next door. No chinking of bottles, no singing on the way home, no car doors slamming. I'm confused - it was just like someone had pulled the plug on the party noise. :?

I have a theory that there's a CD of 'The Greatest Thai Party' you can play, and annoy everyone within a radius of about 200m (depending on the output of your speakers).

Ho hum, it's nice and quiet now and I can ring my family in the UK in peace... Does anyone know where I can buy this CD?

VS, I completely sympathize,

But are you really surprised?

I got an ear full of this in/close to Khon Kaen this New Year, think location is academic.

Happy to be stood corrected by anyone else though.

Spitfire:

No, I'm not surprised - I'm pretty used to it now. It's just that to have a party that just lasts over 3 and a half hours is a bit of a damp quib as far as I'm concerned. It was just getting going and the singing was getting even worse (I was even singing along to some of the songs that they played for the fourth time). They seemed like they were having a fine time and then....nothing. It stopped so suddenly and it was only 10.45! Call that a party? I guess they've just got to learn how to pace themselves on the old Song Sam.

:agree: VS

Spot on!

The only variant is how much lao-kow has been consumed, which deplicts how messy it becomes. Suppose that's the only variation at this time of year.

However, I try to not be hopelessly cynical, even if futile.

I'm puzzled too VS and Spitfire

My experience of Thai parties in Khon Kaen are that they kick off full blast, then there's a lull, then they kick off again, then there's a lull, then they kick off again and the elapsed time can be anything up to 12 hours or if it's a funeral 3 days
