Post by MartinJ »

I and after some advice on Anti-mosquito protection or spray's I once got one called OUT, was the best i ever had. Never got bit while using this.

I looked and look the last time is was there, but did not see any. Can any one tell me if they have seen it. Or if not a replacement that may just be as good.

Not sure if this was the right place to put the question.

Thanks for your time

1) Agree, "OFF" I've found the best.
2) A fan blowing under the table also does the job, mozzies are not strong swimmers.
3) Stay away from pregnant females they are the one's that want your blood.

I don't have a big problem with mossies either, though I have been bitten fairly frequently recently, as there seem to have been more of the little buggers around in the house in the last couple of months (they get my ankles and knees while I'm on the computer...). But I'm lucky in that I don't seem to react to the bites.

So we bought one of those UV (? I think) light thingies at HomePro for about 1400 baht. Complete waste of money. Almost 7 bottles of SangSom. Gutted.

Incidentally, Mrs D-M is a fiend with those battery-powered mossie bats. Scares the living daylights out of me.

Ah-ha you are of course refering to the Bat of Death, great fun...

I have used Off and it works well. I also use those small plastic squeezy bottles of lotion that can be bought in the old shopping mall (elsewhere as well I suspect) They come in two colours (or scents) green and orange if my memory serves me well...

Thanks so far,
more questions

OFF sounds good, so where can i get this from ? 7 - 11 , Tesco do they sell it ?

A fan under the table, but not sure this is a good idea to put this is water if they are good swimmers or not . But i think i understand

The pregnant females wanting your blood, we are still talking mozzies right ? If so how do you tell they are pregnant ? Only go to the men only clubs ?

Many thanks for you help so far

SJ wandering into metaphorical phrases there. :thumb:

If you're the size of a mosquito, then turbulence is your enemy whilst flying.

Even if you have air-con, have a fan gently blowing over you and you'll never get bitten. If you don't have air-con, then it's a must.

If you are in or going to a place that you think is a mosquito 'hotspot' then just wear trousers and long-sleeve shirts, best protection of all. Some places are more high risk than others, but the most likely place you'll get bitten is sitting in the same place(restaurant/bar) for too long or in your room.

Local pharmacies sell the 'OFF' ok.

Joking about the swimming, they are weak flyers and a fan under table when sitting outside does the job.

Was just a bit of trivia that's its only the pregnant females that bite you as they want the protein from your blood for their unborns. She'll smell you if your chemical emissions aren't right she'll move on to the next person. While drinking your blood she inserts her saliva which our body then reacts to making it itch.
Our blood for their itchy spit, not a fair trade :D

Agree with you totally D-M. The pretty purpley-blue light just seems to attract insects from all around. They just fly around it and bathe in the glow. It reminded me of the sunbeds I used to go on in the UK before I came to live in the land of perpetual sunshine.

Martin J: Johnson's do a nice little bottle of anti-mosquito lotion. It's not expensive and it doesn't strip the varnish off tables, or stick your hands to anything plastic like the 'high-Deet' ones do.

VS "Johnson's do a nice little bottle of anti-mosquito lotion" the name would be or if i ask for it they would understand?
I have trouble with cream, get board putting it on and my legs have far to much hair (sorry for that information).

Never had too much trouble in rooms when sleeping , as i do already what has been said with the fans. That really does works, even better if you have 2 fans one at the top and one at the bottom (as some time your legs stick out from covers) which then get seem to get bites without fail.

I always spray the room before i leave in the evening, around the windows and bath room. I really hate being bitten. :guns: I have a little zapper that when you get bitten you click onto the bite and give a small charge which then stop any effect of the bite being an irritable at all.

Thanks again

As a side note, OFF isn't recommended for kids under 3. I didn't listen and it gave my little one a rash. I think because the DEET content is too strong. Use one of the Thai lotions such as SOFFELL for the young one's. Pete
