Man enters lion enclosure to take selfie in Andhra zoo, gets mauled to death

A tragic incident was reported from the Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park (SVZP) in Andhra Pradesh's Tirupati where a man was fatally attacked by a a lion after he entered the enclosure on Thursday. The victim was identified as 34-year-old Prahlad Gujjar, a resident of Bansur municipality in Alwar district of Rajasthan. During his visit to the zoo, he ignored safety protocols and ventured into the lions' enclosure with the intention of taking a selfie, the officials said.
Tragically, before the caretaker could intervene, Gujjar was mauled to death by a lion named 'Dongalpur'. Meanwhile, the local police have registered a case and a post-mortem will be conducted to determine whether Gujjar was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

A 60-year-old kilt-wearing man in Texas was arrested last week after he was caught on surveillance footage from an antique shop allegedly grabbing several items off of the shelves and ‘placing’ those items ‘in his rectum,’ before returning them to the shelves. Mitchell C. Vest was taken into custody on one count of criminal mischief in connection with the bizarre allegations, authorities announced.

A new study by two German linguists has discovered that there are 546 words in the English language to describe being in a state of drunkenness.

"They concluded: “There is ample potential for future studies into the question of expressing drunkenness in English, as our two productive constructions only apply to less than half of all drunkonyms collected. Thus forms such as blotto, slug-nutty or stocious need accounting for, and it appears that in the expression of drunkenness in English, the storage of seemingly unmotivated forms plays a major role.”

The first is apparently US slang for punch-drunk, so nothing at all to do with alcohol, and the second is Scottish/Irish slang. I think one of these 'linguists' was last seen in a kilt shoving antiques up his arse...

The real problem, I suspect, is that there so many different forms of English spoken worldwide.

A man who killed his wife at their Logan home more than four years ago told police "he'd just had a gutful" and shot her, because she had "just waffled on too much", a jury has heard.

Richard Dudley Kelsey pleaded not guilty to the murder of 67-year-old Gail Kelsey on the first day of his Supreme Court trial in Brisbane on Monday.

The 76-year-old did however plead guilty to manslaughter, but this was not accepted by the prosecution.

He also said in the recorded call, Mrs Kelsey had been "yelling and carrying on" and "just waffled on too much" and "he'd just had a gutful of it".

Mr Kimmins told the jury Mr Kelsey had been subjected to a lengthy "barrage" from his wife who "kept picking the scab off as to what his family had done to her over the course of their relationship".

"You will be aghast after listening to the most horrible, vicious rant you would have ever heard in your life," he said.

Truck driver pulled to safety after crash leaves vehicle dangling over bridge across Ohio River

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The driver of a semi-truck was pulled to safety Friday by firefighters following a crash that left the vehicle dangling over a bridge across the Ohio River.

The three-vehicle crash on the George Rogers Clark Memorial Bridge connecting Louisville, Kentucky to southern Indiana was reported around noon, Louisville Fire Chief Brian O’Neill said during a press conference. One other person involved in the crash was immediately taken to the hospital and crews set up to rescue the truck driver from the cab.

It took about 40 minutes to set up a rope system and get someone ready to rappel down to the cab and hook the driver up to a safety harness and bring her out safely, O'Neill said. She was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

“The train for this type of stuff all the time,” he said about the rescue company. “This is very much a worst case scenario.”

Firefighters were prepared and the operation went smoothly because of their training, he said.

“These were some serious heroes here,” he said. “This was some really professional, well practiced, well trained stuff. They got right out there, got right to her.”

Louisville Metro Police are investigating the crash and said the bridge remained closed Friday afternoon in both directions.

A safety inspection of the bridge will be conducted after all vehicles are removed, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said.

^I just watched that rescue on a US news channel and it was pretty impressive. Basically they lowered a responder down from the end of a horizontally extended fire ladder. It was a gutsy thing to do because there was obviously significant hazard of the truck moving during the rescue.

Berger and fellow F1 star Jean Alesi lost their private cars on the same day in April 1995 to car thieves working near the circuit at Imola.

A tad ironic coming from the "Times of India" me thinks....

In all seriousness, the whole "Mental Wellbeing" terminology is way overused in my book - especially by "Gen Z" several of whom seem to use it as a Badge of Honour quite frankly. Of course there are many suffering with true mental disorders and they honestly and truly have my sympathy.
