What Visa Options To Stay After OA Ran Out

Post by JimmyGreaves »

Can someone give me the best option for this scenario:

Got a ticket to fly back UK 26/01/2010, which I want to do to renew my yearly OA visiting family visa etc

Got a current OA visa that had to be utilized by 31/10/2009 and I should have done a visa run before that date to give me the extra 3 months which what was planned but I bloody forgot. I did a run a couple of months ago so I currently have to leave on the 29/11/2009.

Therefor I need some visa to cover 29/11/2009 to 26/01/2010. What are my best options.

Many Thanks

That period would exactly be covered by a Tourist Visa. Can be obtained in a neighbouring country. These are still free of charge. All you need is your passport and two passphoto's. No further paperwork required. Enjoy the trip.

If you have a Thai wife or kids here in Thailand then just go to HH immigration and get a 60 day extension for 1900 baht. You'll need a copy of marriage or birth certificate and the blue/yellow book showing that your wife/kids live there. I've done this many times already and never had any trouble.

Hope this helps

Fantastic, That could be the solution.

Not married but have a daughter here so got her birth certificate my wife and daughters name are in the Tabian bahn.

Takiap, have you done this on the same visa I have?

When do I go and get this extension? Can I go enquire before as I don't want to leave it down to the wire, 29/11/2009 and then have to make plans to get out the country.

Many Thanks

Many Thanks

You can go and apply whenever you want but of course the sixty days starts as from the day you apply. All you need is a copy of the birth certificate, the tabien baan and your passport. It will all be done there and then. I've done it with a Non O visa and also several times with a visa exempt stamp.

Went and did this today and as Takiap describes those are the documents needed a T7 form I think was filled out by the immigration officer there. Photocopies of passport pages, tabian bahn and a photo of me was all got there for about 150 baht. In and out in about 15-20 minutes. Very good service.

They did however start the new 60 days from when my last stamp expired 29/11/2008 and not from today. This pushed me somehow up to the 28th Jan 2010 which gives me braething space phewwwwwwwwww.

Means my next visa can last max 17 months not 15 as I always thought :D

Just one point. Are you sure you have an OA visa, JG? That should give a year's permitted to stay stamp when you arrive. No need for border runs but you do have to report every 90 days. It sounds like you have a multi-entry Non O which does require a border trip every 90 days.
If you do qualify for a Non OA and you get a multi-entry variety of that you get a year on entry as stated and if you do a border run just before the visa expires, you'll get a second year, not just 90 days.
Here's some info on the OA -
http://test.mfa.go.th/web/2482.php?id=2493
If you apply for one of these, you have to do so at The Thai Embassy in your home country. They can't be got from a consulate.
And as you found out, all extensions start from the day your permitted to stay stamp expires, not from date of application.
