Hi All,
I have just had a baby girl (born in Australia) and am wondering if anyone has had experience with getting a dual Aus/Thai passport and if they applied through the consulate in Sydney or did it in Thailand.
We are going to Thailand for 4 weeks on the 26th so probably too late for now from here in Aus.
Any suggestions or feedback would be much appreciated.

I think you will have to register the birth in Australia first. The child must be registered at the local office in the area born. In the UK the Thai embassy acts as the "local" office for the whole of The country.
I registered my child ( at age 10 ) with the Thai embassy in London and applied for her passport at the same time.I was lead to believe if this was done in Thailand it would take longer as they would have to check with the UK.
Hope this helps and is the same in Australia.

Many Thanks JD!
poosmate,
We have the office of births, deaths and marriages here where I have to register the birth asap.
The consulate here in Sydney said that the birth certificate will not have to be translated and I can show Aus documents for application.
Think thats the best solution, thanks for the replys anyway!

We also registered the birth with the british authorities arter her birth as is normal, I was only talking about the Thai registration which is seperate and optional and yes we used the british brith certificate without translation at the Thai embassy.Another advantage is the birth certificate issued in the Uk was in English and Thai. Our son born here in Thailand was registered locally and recieved a Thai birth certificate which I had to get translated for his british Birth certificate and passport. So I have now done the process both ways and from here and abroad!
