My wife Linie has just done the usuall Natwest bank standard transfer, and was shocked to see another charge on there.
Natwest Bank commision charge GBP 20.00
Agent bank charges GBP 12.50
Now if you used to tick the box pay all charges they would still charge you a small amount but now it will cost you GBP 32.50 in total we only transfered GBP 200.00 so it not just ATM'S you are getting fleeced on its transfers too.
The thai bank was the Bangkok Bank has anyone else had a similer experiance.
Kendo.

Are you sure that she didn't tick the box by mistake?
Whenever I've done a transfer at the bank recently, I've had to tell them to uncheck the box because it's a default value. If Linie didn't spot it, that could be the reason.
If you're sure that the box wasn't checked, you should ask them what the Agent bank charges are for.
I really think you need to ask at the bank what that charge was for. I don't send money often, but when I do I've never paid a penny over the Natwest Bank commision charge GBP 20.00.
And yes, I bank with NatWest as well.
If you don't query it, they'll continue to take it to boost their bonuses.
Is it not the norm to be offered the deal of paying the receivers bank charges or not? Its always been the case with Lloyds.
I transferred some money to my Thai account before I headed here and had to pay similar to Kendo (I said I'd pay all charges, after all it was my account the money was going to!). I just assumed they had hiked up the charges as per using a UK card in a Thai ATM. I used to pay about half what I was charged this time.
I never volunteer to pay the Thai charges, and my daughter (usual recipient) never gets charged.
At my local NatWest branch (Yate) they insist on doing transfer on-line at the branch. The pay all charges is always checked, and you have to insist that they uncheck it. I'm assuming Kendo's branch is the same.

BB why go to the branch and do overseas transfers, why not do them online via internet banking.
In Aus my bank fee is $26.00 (AUD) on any amount and can be done via internet to anywhere overseas and is normally there within 24-48hrs (max)

Because he does not live in Australia?
Bangkok Bank charges a "receiving" fee that is on a sliding scale. I think it is capped at 500 Baht. If you elect / select to pay all charges at you home country Bank, then that becomes an additional "service charge", and as your Bank has to process it and collect it from the Thai Bank, they will charge a lot more than the Thai Bank "receiving fee".
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!
FOR CHARGES there are three boxes that can be ticked :-
1) I pay NatWest charges only
2) Beneficiary pays all charges
3) I pay all charges
If none of the boxes are ticked then the first charge will apply.
With HSBC Internet its the same format. When I select option 3 to pay all charges I pay £17 from HSBC plus my Thai bank takes the same from my HSBC Acct equals £34!! CRAZY
When you go for Option 1 then you just pay the £17. The person receiving the cash as far as I know will not see their charge. The charge is deducted first and then they get their sum. I would be very surprised if the bank would advertise this deduction!
As most people just pay the first part of the Bank charges they are unaware that both Banks are charging ridiculous amounts of money!

Sorry, but I don't see how what you've written explains Kendo's 'new' charge. His wife did not agree to pay Thai charges.
I still maintain that Kendo needs to challenge that charge. If he is told that he has been charged the Thai charges, then he will still have his copy of the transaction, and should be able to demand his money back.
Nothing wrong this end Big Boy we have checked with the bank and looked at our previous receipts.
I am going to get Linie to phone Bangkok bank in Prasat this will be a work up.
Kendo.

Sorry Kendo, but there has to be something wrong here. Your UK Bank have charged you an unprecedented 'Agent bank charges GBP 12.50'. Your bank have charged you, ie it's not the Bangkok Bank in Prasat who have charged you.
Your instruction to your bank was that you didn't want to pay Thai charges. If they have gone ahead and paid the charges; why has your bank parted with your money to a foreign bank against your wishes? It is up to your bank to sort it.
Or is there a free for all on Kendo's money? Maybe if I ask for a few quid, and say I know you, they'll give me a bit to help me out over the Christmas
Seriously, if your bank can't explain the transaction, it is them that have cocked up. It's up to them to sort it. Linie should not have to phone Thailand to resolve it.

Nerus, my comment was stating my amazement that in this day and age of electronic banking, I cannot believe that UK banks do not have a facility to be able to do international transfers. Nothing more nothing less.
