We had the same problem when we moved into our relatively new house here. I don't think that the loos had ever been cleaned.
Got to work with a wire pan scourer and powdered vim. It took several attempts, and a good dousing of bleach at night to finally get them to an acceptable state.
nevets: I tried some lime scale remover that I bought in Bangkok years ago - it was OK for a thin layer of limescale, but when it's about half an inch think tougher measures are required.
Good luck Bman - and remember wear your rubber gloves or you'll end up with 'washer woman hands'...

There is a powder called Bar Keepers Friend that will clean anything, including the ring hard water leaves around a toilet bowl. It is the best cleanser I've ever found for stubborn stains but unfortunately, I've only seen it in the states. I have people bring it to me here.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Yes, it works well and contains oxalic acid as the active ingredient.hhfarang wrote:There is a powder called Bar Keepers Friend that will clean anything, including the ring hard water leaves around a toilet bowl. Have you tried coke?Seriously was sent an attachment explaining all the things it can do..and believe me you'll never put it in your Jack Daniels or ever let your kids near it again!Anyhow I used it to clean the bath out and left a bit still there..and it ended up eating into the bath in one spot! They also claim if you emerse meat in coke after 3 days it's gone!
That's what they're using in the above YouTube video. I got this advice from an old lady neighbor of ours.
Steradent, the stuff that the oldies soak their dentures in, either powder or tablet form.
Stick some in the loo overnight and give it a brush out in the morning.
Apparently it is an oxidizer, just like the "Vanish" powder my wife adds to the laundry wash to remove tough or stubborn stains, so won't harm the ceramic.
Bleach just whitens the stains but does not remove them, allowing re-staining to take place again.
Good luck and remember to paint your name on the soles of your shoes, so that when you fall in head first, your family know it's you in there.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.
not sure about swimming pool stains, but i poured Mr Muscle (the bathroom tiles cleaner, not the toilet bowl cleaner) around the sides, scrubbed it a little and left it overnight. and voila, it was clean and sparkly the next morning. Works well with basins and bathroom tiles too. I wouldn't use that on white mugs though.
