What does a 1 to 6 month visitor need?

Post by Big Boy »

I hope the answer to my question will be simple, and I'm sure it has been answered on here many times. I simply get confused with the various visa types. Reading the Consulate help pages yesterday didn't really help.

I have a 60 year old friend who visits Thailand fairly regularly with his Thai wife. When they visit, they visit Thai family.

At the moment he gets his 30 day stamp on arrival in Bangkok, and tops it up with regular border runs. When he told me this I told him he was crazy doing it that way. I said that he should be going down the visa route as it would work out cheaper, and as a 60 year old he didn't really want to be making fortnightly visa runs.

My question is, what does he need to cover him for up to 3 months, and what does he need to cover him for up to 6 months?

Tourist visas are the answer.
Single entry gives 60 days on arrival and can be extended at any Imm office here for a further 30 days - cost 1,900THB.
Double entry - as above, then exit Thailand on a border run, re-enter to activate the second entry and repeat - 60 days+30 day extension.
You can apply by post to Hull. Information on their web site (the free tourist visa scheme finishes on March 4th):

Ok mate

as he is married to a Thai he can get a NON IMMIGRANT O visa from Hull or Birmingham consulates no probs

This is a 12 month multiple entry visa - every 90 days you have to go across the border on a stupid border run but its better than the other options

cost is about £120 I think from Hull/Birmingham. Paperwork required is a copy of the thai or english marriage certificate and his wifes details (ID card??)

Birmingham Consulate - www.thailand-visa.com

Hull Consulate - www.thaiconsul-uk.com

Both have call helplines

DO NOT USE LONDON - unhelpful jumped up little shits one and all.

60-day double entry is easy and cheap. Gets you 59+59+30 and I don't mind a quick trip out after 7 weeks or so. Totally legal and I 've found I often get a smile when I present a proper visa, reward perhaps for doing things the right way.
I don't get, nor have sympathy for, people who keep doing the VOA then whine about visa runs. Maybe if some of them drank a bit less...
