Hua Hin school under attack from bees
Prachuap Khiri Khan - About 100 students, most of them kindergarten kids, were attacked by bees while singing the national anthem in the morning.
Teachers and parents of the Ban Nong Tapao School in Tambon Hin Lek Fai of Hua Hin district rushed the students to the Hua Hin Hospital following the attack.
Seven of them, who are kindergarten kids, were in severe condition and had to be admitted and were placed under close watch by doctors.
The rest were discharged after were giving pain killer and anti-inflammatory drug.
Teachers said the bees were building up their nest in the school for months and they did not know why the bee suddenly attacked the kids.
The school teaches kindergarteners up to Grade 9 students.

Scary stuff and deadly if some of those kids have allergies.
Hat's off to pure stupidity on the part of the school for letting the nest build up to apparent huge proportions without taking action. What did they think would happen, Buddha would protect everyone!?
I hope the parents go after them with every lawyer in Thailand. Foolishness like this has to stop once and for all!

Y see.... Mai Pen Rai in action
and this is a nation intent on building nuclear reactors.....

so let me get this right.... Teachers cant understand why bees that have established a nest and therefore their territory attack. Bees who are highly responsive to sound triggers..... I wonder how many of them have university degrees.Teachers said the bees were building up their nest in the school for months and they did not know why the bee suddenly attacked the kids

Fraid so, have to agree there. What a bunch of muppets, teachers discover and identify a bees nest in a kindergarden area, don't clock it as a possible threat (especially to the under 5s), allow the situation to esculate and leave the bees to do their thing and are then confused when the bees decide they need to protect a larger area.

We are quick to criticise the school and teachers but Buddhists believe bees on your property bring good luck and would be unlikely to want to move them.
Also it's possible the kids were not entirely blameless and may have disturbed them causing them to become aggressive.

That's a bit thin.We are quick to criticise the school and teachers but Buddhists believe bees on your property bring good luck and would be unlikely to want to move them.
Which is exactly why they (bees) shouldn't have been in that environment in the first place, it's a liability having the bees around. Children also need to be protected from themselves at that age. Also it's possible the kids were not entirely blameless and may have disturbed them causing them to become aggressive.

Yes, to our risk adverse, Health & Safety etc. etc. way of thinking I'm sure they would have been moved long ago.
TIT so try to think more openly and understand different viewpoints - should we try to interfere ?

Well if any of you have read my thread on life in Isaan it seems I am a bit of a pied piper with bees

Well...fair enough Chopsticks, but if I was one of the parents then I don't think the philosophical approach that you suggest would fly too well, probably wouldn't with most others either, try asking the parents of the kids that are still in hospital. Also, don't have to do the "This is Thailand" routine with me man, slightly patronising, it's not an excuse for stupidity.
Also, I don't call children's safety a case of interference or not, it a case of resposibility.
The TIT routine is not an excuse for being a moron.

It's not so black & white Spitfire man, have a look at this article as an example of the different approach and way of thinking. Squatters rights for bees it seems ........

Hmmm.....I see the point in the article in a temple/religious environment but we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one, superstitious mumbo-jumbo has little place outside such complexes, neither does it in Christian/Islamic countries IMHO, however much they all fail to do it.
Just my opinion, that's all, some will agree, some won't.
Don't get SM67 started on it.

Re: Hua Hin school under attack from bees
Anyone sure it was bees? I get them making nests in the garden sometimes, Thai people do believe them to be good luck. They are never any problem even if disturbed. Never tried to steal the honey, that might change the temperament. The various wasps and hornets here are a different story. If disturbed they will immediately attack en masse and sting repeatedly. From personal experience I can tell you this is painful.

Hope the kids are all ok .Did any of the bee's have red shirts on
Re: Hua Hin school under attack from bees
From what I can find out Crazy, there are four types of native honey bee in Thailand, similar to the ones found in China etc, nothing to suggest they are any more aggressive than any other honey bee.
If however, it was a nest of those big black and red wasps/hornets, then it's as you mentioned, that's a different matter.

We had a bloody great hornets nest on our property and Buddha or not, they were history, quick time.chopsticks wrote:We are quick to criticise the school and teachers but Buddhists believe bees on your property bring good luck and would be unlikely to want to move them.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.
