Bars hit with English Word Cup commentary fines

Post by chelsea »

Anybody in Hua Hin been hit with this yet, may pay to be on your guard if no one has been around.
Seems they are hitting Patong and surrounding areas pretty bad.

I heard that the bars had to pay the 'bill' Bht 20,000 or be fined at least Bht100,000 if they were caught showing a game.

I also heard they paid !

Have heard similar stories from a few places in the Soi 88 area.

And, now I ask the question..........................can you really and truly accept Thais, as a nation, as being your equal? If you can, then my hat off to you. As far as I'm concerned, when you read about things like this, Thailand is even lagging behind the most backward of African nations. Bars and pubs around the world are screening the world cup, but as is to be expected, the Thai's go and F everything up. So, let's see.....Welcome to Thailand, we hope you enjoy your holiday here, but unfortunately you we cannot allow you to watch the football.

Once again, if it weren't for my family, I would leave this place in an instant. I'm sorry to say it, but if I really wanted to live in between troops of monkeys, I think I would prefer the zoo. Honestly, I cannot believe this country even manages to support themselves. What a bloody laugh they are. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Calm down - you have it wrong if the article is anything to go by. Nobody is being prevented from watching the football. The issue is about illegal broadcast of the football with English commentary. Given Thailand's historical failure to deal with copyright and licensing issues it's a bit laughable but when you think about it, they are probably right to do so.

Personally I'd have thought that not watching the matches with English commentary (and watching them with Thai commentary instead) would be a blessing - no inane punditry to endure.... well none that you could understand anyway! It makes me wonder whether the idiot in the article who claimed he couldn't watch the football unless it had English commentary (because his attention drifted from the match!) has ever been to an actual football match! No rewind, no fast forward, no action replays, no slow motion and definitely no commentators!

I don’t think this is anything to do with the Thais F* everything up, it is the same here in the Gulf.
Free TV show games in Arabic but if you want to show it in the Bar with English commentary then the bar has to pay a license fee to the broadcaster otherwise it is illegal. I.E Get Caught = Pay a Fine

It is the same here in Abu Dhabi, our company had to pay quite a bit extra for English commentary, which is a bit ironic as with those bloody vuzuzela's most of us are watching with the sound turned down.

Jamie, that was my take on it entirely. here in Australia we can watch sport on the PC 24/7 via webiste myp2p.eu.
I do not have Foxtel here in Australia and must admit I use the streaming to watch games late at night when my local is not open.

Recently the National Australian Rules (AFL) people became aware of peoples access, so now although the games are still listed as available for viewing, the leagues broadcasters are now blocking the signals and they cannot be streamed.
Setanta are also very very vigilant on these live streamings and do the same thing all the time.

Takiap, this is nothing to do with the Thai's ripping people off, I think it is more Fifa looking after the rights of their sponsor's and broadcasters for their advertising and broadcasting.

Look at what happened with the ambush marketing plan that Bavaria beer had in South Africa, where they gave some hot looking birds free orange dresses to wear in the crowd at one of the Holland games with a very small Bavaria Beer logo on the bottom of the dress. Security removed all those people from the ground and all were taken by the police,
The English commentator who stupidly gave them the tickets has now been sacked from his job and the two organizers are now awaiting trial and possible 2 years (I think) in jail for their actions.

People pay millions and millions of dollars for the rights to broadcast and advertise at these games and insist on these type of clauses in their contracts to protects their investments. From what I see FIFA are only protecting the broadcasters and advertisers intellectual rights to this event.

I'm 100% with Jamie "bach" (no bias)... Here in China, we have the same old "Ill Eagal" dish etc.... But when it comes to the
WORLD CUP
for example - why bother pissing around? Played via local tv, comentary via the (very legal) internet radio. Exactly what we are doing in the bar in Chongqing, legal, lovely and peaceful!! Now just for England to lose tomorrow.......

oh please get real....save us the "protecting rights owners..." blather.

The only authority with any authority to enforce IPT in Thailand is the relevant central government IPR ministry.

The plod and tessabahn crowd are just thieving scum on the take as usual. They have as much right to enforce international IP rights as you and I. As usual they have sniffed out another get rich scam and are bilking that eternal golden goose the bar owners.

Business as usual.

Are the 2 in sync? My experience is that satellite systems are subject to a slight delay.
