Foreign currency account

Post by MajorBloodnok »

G'day, :)

I assume it's not possible to open a foreign currency (Euro) account with a Thai bank.

It would be convenient to have two accounts, one Euro, one Baht though.

Thanks for your advice anyway.

Kind regards,

I think you'll find that you can now these days at most of the High St banks. Not sure the exact rules and may vary slightly from bank to bank but you'll have to make a minimum depost into the account to open it with, think a mate of mine was asked for $4000 from Krung Thai a year or so ago to have one opened is US dollars. Things like rules on this stuff can change awefully fast now though.

Also not sure if they require any specific visa/work permit status or not to open one, can't remember.

Bangkok Bank certainly say you can, although I haven't tried it personally:

Resident Baht Account and Foreign Currency Deposit account for non-residents

Foreign individual customers can open a bank account with Bangkok Bank.
1. Resident Baht Account
2. Foreign Currency Deposit Account

The Foreign Currency Deposit Account is a convenient and flexible way to manage revenues and expenses in foreign currencies and reduces the risk of currency fluctuations when you make international transactions. You can deposit funds in any of these 13 major currencies:

US Dollar (USD)
Euro (EUR)
British Pound (GBP)
Hong Kong Dollar (HKD)
Singapore Dollar (SGD)
Swiss Franc (CHF)
Australian Dollar (AUD)
Canadian Dollar (CAD)
Japanese Yen (JPY)
Danish Krone (DKK)
Norwegian Krone (NOK)
Swedish Krone (SEK)
New Zealand Dollar (NZD)

May I suggest that if you do not know, do not answer the question.

Thai Banks accept FX accounts with very minimal balances but look to the particular bank, you have or wish to have, a relationship with and they will tell you.

^ Bollox to that!

It's not a forum of anally retentive robots that just dive into a memory bank to retrieve info. What's wrong with genuine human comment, rather like you would talk down the pub? Do we have to be answer freaks?

Answer was semi right anyhow, :butt:
