ATV Test Drive Event?

Post by QUADMASTER »

We are considering to run a 'test drive' day for ATV/QUADs at a local private road venue.
If we did run such an event, how many people would be interested in attending?

As far as I'm aware they are illegal on the public roads as you cannot license them. They may be fine for what they were designed for as in a small farm / off road vehicle but they are horrible to ride on the roads. Just my two satangs worth
I never forget a face but in your case I'll make an exception!

To answer the OP's question, I would certainly attend if the time is convenient.

Cool!
If we can get enough interest then we will make it happen.
When is the best time to run it - weekend?

More or less any time for me - whatever's convenient for the others.

As a general comment, it wouldn't be a bad idea to visit and invite a few of the local higher ranking MIB. They would see first hand their usefulness in police work in a beach and off road environment, as proven by many other police forces already using them worldwide in specialized locations similar to Hua Hin. Could generate a sale. If the HH police would be the first in Thailand using a few it would be a big deal concerning enhancement of their reputation. A few fully marked machines with officers in special uniforms cruising on and near the beaches and back roads would make tourists feel a bit safer as well.

Second, those attending would get some first hand comments about how the police feel concerning their general use on the roads, licensing, etc., etc. Pete

Not sure but I think I've seen the Cha Am Police using 2 Quads (in Police livery)

Local Fuzz (sounds like a good name for a bar!)

OK, its looking like there is a groundswell of interest in doing a bit of a test day. Lets see if we can get something planned.

I totally agree on the Police idea.

We did get equiries from the police but their approach seemed to be all about how much machine can they could get for not much bhat?
Price ain't everything!

As best we could, we did try to explain the concept of: 'horses for courses'. This is not a machine to take out once or twice a week and then put back in the box. This is a 'work horse' and needs to be able to take a lot of punishment from 24/7 usage. We advised against a 150cc basic built unit but I think this is what they have gone for.
We proposed the 300cc shaft drive 'Huntsman' which is close to 2m long and weighs in at 250 kilos. It has a box section frame which is powder coated (rather than painted)
It is fitted with a tow bar (as standard) and can be fitted with a winch. (extra) The unit has fully enclosed foot wells rather than sport design. It is fitted with large carrying racks and can have specialist boxes fitted to add extra carrying capability. It has EEC approval as a road legal machine. We could have supplied them in black which would have looked really cool.

If anyone knows any senior MIBs we would be more than happy to invite them to attend!

Get back to you on the test day.

We may try to put something together at the begining of November. 5th or 7th?
The majority of our machines are manual gears (same as riding a motorbike)
You will get much more out of the test drive if you are able to operate manual gears.
If not, we do have a couple of models which are auto and still go pretty quick, so hopefully we have something for everybody.
Interested to try driving buggies as well or just ATVs?
Thanks

End of October would be better for me, before I go back to work on 31st... :(
But don't change plans on my account - I'll wait and see which day and time.
