Driver dies when pickup hits elephant on road in Khao Yai

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... recent_box

NAKHON RATCHASIMA: The driver of a pickup truck died when he crashed into a wild elephant crossing a road through Khao Yai National Park in Pak Chong district early on Wednesday night.

Nakharin Boonchai, 58, of Bangkok, was alive but badly hurt and still trapped inside the wrecked vehicle when police and rescuers reached the scene, on Phan Suek-Kud Khla Road in tambon Moo Si, after being alerted around 7.15pm.
Medics performed CPR but he died shortly after.

Residents who witnessed the crash told police that two wild elephants were crossing the road when the speeding pickup truck arrived. It hit the rear elephant.

They had waved their hands, trying to warn the driver in time for him to avoid the animals. He did not see them because it was too dark. Elephants often cross the road in that area, Thai media reported.

Khao Yai National Park officials and police were sent to track down the elephant involved in the crash. When found about 9pm it was seen to have injuries to two legs - one front and one hind leg. Bleeding was visible on the hind leg, but the animal could still walk.

They kept a close watch on the animal overnight. Veterinarians were expected to arrive there on Thursday morning and would assess the animal's condition and provide treatment if needed.

Two migrant workers killed in pickup crash

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... recent_box

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN: Two Myanmar nationals were killed and 12 others hurt when a pickup truck carrying illegal migrant workers crashed into a roadside light pole at a curve in Muang district late Friday night. The driver fled.

The accident occurred at the Thung Khed curve on a road at Nong Kaprao village in tambon Koh La, said Pol Lt Col Yoswaris Thongsongsom, investigation chief at the Muang police station, who was alerted at 10pm.

A police investigation found that the pickup struck a light pole and plunged into the bushes about one metre below the side of the road.
The force of the crash threw most of the passengers out of the vehicle. Two men, aged between 30 and 40, were killed and 12 others hurt. All were Myanmar migrants. They had no official work permits.

The driver, whose name is not yet known, fled.

Some migrants who suffered minor injuries told police via an interpreter that there were 26 people on board the pickup. They said they had sneaked into the country via a pass in the Tanaosri mountain range.

An agent had arranged two pickup trucks to pick them up at the border. When the truck they had boarded arrived at the curve, the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to hit the pole, they said.

All of the migrants were destined for Malaysia, police said.
Police radioed officers along the route to block the second pickup carrying an unknown number of illegal migrants as it was heading south.

Five passengers hurt when van rear-ends parked truck

Five Myanmar workers were badly hurt when the van they were travelling in rear-ended a truck parked on the side of the road in Bang Pahan district early on Tuesday morning.

The crash happened near kilometre marker 42 on Bangkok-bound Asia Road in tambon Han Sang, near the Bang Pahan highway, around 5am, police said.

The Bangkok registered van, a charter vehicle not a regular service, was still jammed up against the truck, the front badly damaged, when police arrived at the scene.

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... recent_box

KANCHANABURI: Four people, including Thai and Myanmar drivers and an Iranian tourist, were killed and another badly hurt when a pickup truck crashed head-on with a taxi in Sai Yok district in the early hours of Saturday.

The fatal crash happened at kilometre makers 107-108 on the Kanchanaburi-Sai Yok section of Highway 323 in tambon Lum Sum, said Pol Lt Chaiya Paiwan, deputy investigation chief at Sai Yok police station, who was reported shortly after midnight.

Police and rescue workers rushing to the scene found a taxi with Bangkok licence plates and a single-cab pickup truck with Nakhon Ratchasima licence plates. Both were badly damaged.

Three people died at the spot and two others were seriously hurt. All were trapped in the wreckage of the two vehicles.

The three dead people were Ms Rinphu-on Jongkol, 46, the taxi driver; Ms Kantamanee Konnakhon, 28, a Thai taxi passenger of Tak’s Mae Ramat; and a Myanmar man identified only as Khwanchai of Sai Yok district, who drove the pickup truck.

A police investigation found the taxi was on the way to send the Thai woman and the Iranian tourist to a resort in Sai Yok district. When the taxi arrived at the scene, the pickup truck travelling in the opposite direction suddenly rammed into it.

Police would interrogate more witnesses and the injured man, Mr Korawit, to find out the cause of the crash.

Two die in fall from expressway when Benz hits truck

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... hits-truck

A Mercedes-Benz rear-ended a broken down furniture truck stopped on an elevated expressway shoulder, sending two employees hurtling over the guardrail to their death, in Nonthaburi province on Tuesday morning.

The crash was reported about 9.10am on the inbound side of the Srirat expressway leading to Ngam Wong Wan area, above Wat Bua Khwan.

The black luxury sedan hit two men standing at the back of the stalled, converted pickup truck, sending them plummeting down on to a furniture shop below the expressway. A third employee traveling with the truck was safe, as he was standing elsewhere.

Two women were in the Mercedes-Benz, one elderly and the other thought to be in her 30s. Witnesses said they were crying.

The crash caused heavy traffic congestion on the elevated expressway and roads beneath it.

HARD SHOULDER! All the signage and warnings mean absolutely nothing. The hard shoulder going to IKEA has yellow hash lines. Every couple of dozen metres there is a large red and white roundel showing 'No Entry'. All completely ignored. Complete stupidity.

This is not about education at all.

EVERY single time I use the airport bus I look down and witness motorists undertaking at full speed on the expressway.
The sheer speed they are doing this up the inside/hard-shoulder does not leave much time for any errors..yet every 30 seconds another vehicle is whizzing past!
Again no police enforcement so lives are lost...TiT.

Korean tourists among 12 hurt in three-vehicle crash

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... h#cxrecs_s

Eight Korean tourists were among 12 people injured in a crash that involved three vehicles and killed the driver of their passenger van on Monday.

A rescue unit in Chachoengsao reported the accident on the inbound section of Bang Na-Trat Road in Bang Pakong district of the province about 11.47am. It involved a van, pickup truck and a motorcycle.

Pol Lt Col Boonsarit Chuchuay, duty officer at Bang Prakong, told Thairath online that eight visitors from South Korea travelling the van were seriously injured and were taken to Churarat 11 Hospital.

The van driver, Sangworn Chancharoen, died in the accident.

The four other injured people were the motorcyclist and three people travelling in the pickup truck, including driver Sanon Pholchai, he said.

Mr Sanon told police that he was making a U-turn and his pickup was hit by the van. The van driver then lost control, collided with a motorcycle and finally came to a halt after the vehicle rolled over onto its side.

It was not known where the van driver had picked up his passengers or where they were going to.
Police were investigating.

Tour bus overturns, 6 killed, 50 injured

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... recent_box

PATHUM THANI: Six passengers - a man, four women and a baby girl - were killed and about 50 others injured when a double-decker tour bus heading from Roi-et's Phanom Phrai district to Bangkok overturned in Khlong Luang district early Sunday, police said.

Pol Capt Vacharapong Thienpratham, a Khlong Luang police duty officer, said the accident occurred at about 3.20am at kilometre marker 35 + 100 on Phahon Yothin highway in tambon Khlong Nueng.

A police investigation revealed that the bus of Prayad Tour Company departed Phanom Phrai district in Roi-et province at 7pm on Saturday. Passengers said the accident happened in the rain after the driver braked suddenly to avoid hitting a vehicle in front of it, causing it to overturn and come to rest on the highway upside down.

A man, four women and a baby girl, about 3-5 months old, were killed. About 50 others were injured. They were rushed separately by rescuers to Thammasat Chalerm Phra Kiat, Bang Pakok Rangsit, Pathumvech, Pattara-Thonburi, Paolo Rangsit and other hospitals in the area.

Police were still looking for the driver, who might be among those admitted to hospital, for questioning.
