around hau hin

Post by edward »

Hi everybody first time in thailand my wife and I have been here 1 week and are not seeing Thailand, all tourist traps. We need someone to show us round the area who speaks English and can drive as we have no transport, tried a couple of taxi firms can do the transport but not the language, Travel agent can do both for a small fortune. Any suggestions PLEASE ? We are here untill end of feb.

Thanks TED & JILL

Welcome to the forum edward. You should be able to approach any taxi parked on the roadside with boards showing the various tourist destinations. Have a chat with them, decide where you'd like to go, and then negotiate a price.

Have you considered renting a car? There are many pleasant spots heading south that are easily accessible on a day out from Hua Hin. The smaller roads are quiet and easy to drive on and you can explore the area with the help of a map and by being independant of tourism you can avoid that side of things.
As the main highway to the south of Thailand lies a few miles inland of the coast all the way down it's hard to get lost for too long as once you find that, it'll get you back to Hua Hin.

Hi Edward,
Welcome to the forum we have a very good friend that runs a luxury Mini Van, my wife has known his family for 15 years as they used to have a restaurant in Hua Hin.

He can give you a tour around and all the local info you can wish for, he is a really respectable Thai man that speaks very good english, and most importantly he drives in a very safe manner unlike the norm here.

His name is Khun Toy 0861667679 and his wife's number 0841250717

Hope this helps he is a really friendly guy give him a call.

Kendo.

You could also think about booking a trip to the River Kwai - all the tour offices do them, and you have time to do a 2 or 3 night trip which is much better than a short dash. I know it sounds like another tourist trap, but IMO well worth a visit.
Don't forget there are places north of HuaHin as well worth a look, but for most fairly local trips car hire as suggested could be the way to go.
Unfortunately most good sized towns which are easily accessible are tourist traps to some degree, even up north, and HuaHins' location has made it even more so.
