Great Sporting Moments - Sporting Memories
Over the years there have been some incredible moments in sport - whichever your chosen one is. I for one am obviously a great fan of rugby, but have some wonderful memories of classic moments in other sports from my younger years.
Cricket, the likes of Beefy and Viv - what happened to their like? Great characters.
Boxing, unfortunately too young to remember the days of Ali, Foreman, Sugar Ray et al - only from video/TV. I enjoyed the likes of Benn and Eubank - not in the same league, but some classic fights.
Tennis, don't really follow the sport these days, but as a kid there was Borg, McEnroe, Conners, and later Lendl et al.... again, great characters which the game seems to be missing at the moment.
Wendy Ball, well, being Welsh it's always Toshak, Rush and Liverpool because of the latter. Still, not being a great supporter of the game, one very clear memory was Spurs vs Arsenal....
I have countless memories with sport, but just to start off with an easy 3...
First up - 1973 BaaBaas vs New Zealand........ Gareth Edwards. My old Man "Was There..."..... b@st@rd!!
Beefy Knocks Merv for 6......
Wendy Ball - @rsewipe, drunkard, wife beater....... but he could play
Come on guys...... Add your "memories"....

This one stands out for myself.

Edit: Good shout there Pharvey.

This one for me when Munster achieved the seemingly impossible on Tuesday 31 October 1978 at Thomond Park - the only time an Irish team has ever beaten the All Blacks

A difficult choice.
This is probably the moment & sporting memory that will always stand out for me, crammed in the Anfield road end of the ground like a sardine, playing possibly the greatest ever team to grace top flight English football, requiring a 2-0 victory to win the title, 1-0 up & into injury time & this happened . . . . .
I even feature in the clip at 31 seconds

That 'greatest try' was awseome! Watched that a few times now.
I do agree with BB about the couple of possibly forward passes though. But of course those were the days in sport when, a fantistic bit of play which could amount into something really special, wasn't suddenly halted for some minor infringement (if it was forward we are talking tiny tiny bits!).

This was a Barbarians game - neither the style of play or the refereeing were in line with regular international tests.
That doesn't detract from the beauty of the try, but had it been a normal game I'm pretty sure it would have been booted into touch from the 25...

There were a couple of "flat passes" there BB, but as DM says, it was a BaaBaas game and you've got to let it flowBig Boy wrote:2 of those passes looked forward to me. Maybe I need to move my screen a little to the leftThe Greatest Try Of All Time

Re: Great Sporting Moments - Sporting Memories
Well, I have great memories of being part of a fledgling barmy army at this match:
I think it goes down as Bothams last great game for his Country and although I couldn't find a shorter film, go to 13 minutes and prepare for Botham to clean bowl Border, a great delivery acknowledged by the aussie skipper - you have to look closely.
The Oz press had really built up the aussies as bankers to win the tournament and they were a disaster! But until the point of no return, they were still expecting the team to turn it around - the Country was in a state of disbelief and then mourning! Gave me great pleasure to go jogging around the Turramurra area, where I was staying, wearing my England shirt! Got a few choice comments!
