Over 1000 members but only the chosen few post...

Post by Rider »

Just been idly checking on the forum and I've noticed the trend is that only select few members on HHAD post!

Nearly 50% of the board members have yet to make a post
Less than 25% have only made 5 posts!

Come on you silent watchers! Don't be shy, start off fresh topics and reply to some posts! We don't bite and as long as the posts aren't too evil, insane or breaching protocol the input is always welcome!

As it is the forum IMHO is becoming reactive rather than proactive in its content because of the lack of new members posting!

We regulars can post forever but what would look great is if some fresh blood to actually get good discussions goings.

I think that I have completely buggered all statistics.

Even the vociferous Deidrie who could bore the hind legs from an Isanese Buffalo can not compete with me.

maybe, but you don't have to register as a member to do that and anyway the whole idea of a forum is to promote discussion preferably of a few cold ones

This is an age old problem we have had since day one. A lot of members have only made one or two posts as they're coming here for a holiday, register, and ask "What is the Hyatt like?" and are never to be seen again. A lot of their questions are done with one or two simple answers.

There are a whole mass of people that have registered and never posted (over 50%), now this baffles me since you dont need to register to read it.

We do have a couple of hardcore posters but what we really need is more insightful discussion. All suggestions welcome, we've been battling with this for a long time!

People are a strange bunch

Here Here and well said.
Perhaps everyone needs to drop their traditional Western Reserve and start telling it like it is.

The way I see it is that the thai visa forum has members can be too mouthy and annoying but say whats on their mind. :)
HHAD has members who choose to remain in the shadows and play the silent majority!

Come on lads lets start roaring out our views, knowlege and discuss stuff. :thumb:
As it is all we can hear from you is the odd sqeek of hotel enquiries.

Some forums operate a system where members can only have access to certain areas of a forum if they have posted so many posts (normally 5). Its a bit draconian but can encourage discussion and more chatter, although it requires keen eyes vetting the posts so they don't post crap jokes and nonsense!

Rider,

Nail on the head,

Too many mods who are connected.

People will not post as if you speak against mods likes then look out from the other mods.

Simple questions asked, reply can be very rude .

Some also abuse people knowing they hide behind user name,

Cannot talk about news unless sponsor, but ok if you are a mod.

It sad to see somthing good die.

I joined the forum just to see whats been going on since I left (5 years in Pranburi 8 years ago) and whats up with the english type schools. I now have 3 kids only one that was born in Thailand. The Emabasy in DC has said no worries on getting a Thai Passport as long as they are under 18. Reading this forum is a great stress relief and a good laugh on most days. Unfortunatally working 16-19 hours a day there's not a lot of time to post

Welcome to the board. You've obviously been here for some time, so we hope your experience and input will be shared.
As has been said, the more people posting, the better this forum will become for all.

The Mods I've found to be hard but fair, and their replies are normally civil enough, the rules may seen as a bit stringent but quite liberal in some ways e.g allowing our URLS to be listed with a Hyperlink. I know many forums who forbid this.

Thats why we have Terms and Conditions all the posting regulations are there. When you accuse Mods of not having a work permits or your posts are very abrupt they will be met with an abrupt reply. As was said before, maybe English isnt your first language, give us a little background.

Many members also hide behind user names, they cant hide behind an IP address though

No forum on the Net is without Mods, it would be total anarchy and people would abuse the system as some already have here. I think you're barking up the wrong tree if you're trying to blame the Mods for the low percentage of members posting, this was the case before we even had Mods. They have a job to do, they're just doing it the best they see fit.

Of course we have to look after our sponsors, they are looking after us and keeping HHAD here, without them HHAD wouldnt exist and this discussion wouldnt even be taking place.

Nothing is going to die.

Lev,

If one of your concerns is that the forum has a high percentage of numbers that never leave a post, would it not be an idea to put a time limit on how long you can be a member without leaving a post, say a 4 or 6 month period before your membership is removed. As you have pointed out, you don’t have to be a member to read the posts left by others.

Just an idea.

Not a bad idea. We try to be a community here, but there are many people who just read and don't contribute. They expect something for nothing. Well, us mods do get nothing. We believe in this forum and in the main it's a good laugh with loads of good advice. That's why I do it.
Hotmail and Yahoo will cut you off if your account has not been active for a while.
Why not the same here?
And for those out there who retort that the internet's free - it's not. In the main it's advertiser funded. A web site can last for ages without being updated, but forums like this need input and moderation. We do this for nought and sometimes get really naffed off with users who can't be bothered to go through a simple search function.
Certainly, I don't reply to any post that can exact a quick answer from a search any more. I leave the comments to admin.
Rant over. :D

Guilty....

Post by andywat »

Gosh, nothing like a bit of arm twisting, and guilt inducing chat to make a person post on here......

Seriously though, as a new conscript to HHAD who's just returned from the best holiday ever, and desperate to return, I just wanted to keep in touch with the place.

That was my reason for joining, and hence, log on a couple of times a day to check postings.

You have a great forum, with many and varied views (and some positively nutty)!!....Keep it up

And yes, I promise not only to watch, but contribute as well.....
