VPN Recommendations and Discussion
Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion
I've currently got it working on a couple of laptops, and there is already a notable improvement. OK, early days yet.
I will put it on my tablet later today.

I’ve had it on a laptop, tablet and phone since the beginning of the year and it’s far more stable than Express was.

5 days into it, and not a single glitch yet. The only thing I haven't tried is live TV, but because of time differences, my main usage is catch-up TV from the UK anyway. I'll wait for a footie match, or some other sporting event that I'm interested in for that - maybe try the Olympics.
All that I can say is I don't know why I didn't transfer to Nord 10 or 11 months ago. Compared to Express, this is absolutely brilliant. Express VPN is not in the same league.

It’s strange that your findings are much the same as mine and yet all of the “expert reviews” tend to have them on a par - I just wonder how independent they really are?

Good to know, I'll be switching shortly.
The "expert reviews" are mostly clickbait sites - they get commissions through affiliate links, best to ignore them and use word of mouth as we are doing here.

Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion
Got about a week left with Express, and 90% sure I'll switch to Nord, but a few technical questions for those who have before I do:
Is it an improvement over regular Thai net speeds? Express used to improve the bandwidth, especially when connected through TOT.
What is the latency and stability like, I've noticed Express cutting out a lot recently, needing lots of F5s or switching servers to get back online, does Nord have this issue?
What is it like for downloading torrents, good speeds?
What is the server selection like, better than Express?
How is watching live UK TV on it? Express was 50/50 whether it would play or not
How is the mobile app in comparison?
I know its a no brainer on price costing less than half, but I need decent service to go with that.
TIA.

Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion
I can't compare with Express, Express is just not in the same league. I've used it regularly for about a month now, mainly watching UK TV, and I've had 2 periods of buffering - neither lasted 5 seconds. It is fantastic.
Very stable. Speeds are the same as Express.
I've only tested briefly on mobiles, but I have no reason it won't be as good.

I’ve been using it since the beginning of the year and as far as I’m concerned it’s performance is better than Express in virtually every aspect - but I don’t do downloads so can’t comment on how long it takes.

I have 3BB.
I just checked the download at two different Nord servers in the U.S. and found this:
Speedtest by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test
284.65 Mbps
245.73 Mbps
I don’t have buffering problems streaming American TV.

Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion
I used a company called Onspeed as VPN, they were pretty good but only choice of one alternative server. Have been using Nord for nearly 9 years, never a fault. As for downloading or streaming , no worries, just need to try different countries or servers. Been watching the Olympics on many different channels with no buffering. My bandwidth is 300mbps. Nord recommended.
Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion
Thanks for the feedback, Nord seems superior in all ways then. I wonder if Express notices their customer base dwindling and their rival's growing. They usually ask why the subscription has been canceled, and the answer is clear: price goes up, and service goes down - not a great way to do business but I notice that its the "new normal" for most things now.

Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion
Yes, it was very unusual, but Express didn't even seem interested that I was not renewing my subscription.

Here's the background. My take is cutting corners to recoup their huge investment, after which they'll probably sell again.
"The owner of ExpressVPN is Kape Technologies. The company bought ExpressVPN on September 13, 2021. Kape Technologies also owns 3 other VPNs: CyberGhost, Private Internet Access, and Intego VPN."
