Dealing with those really tiny ants

Post by Spitfire »

As the title suggests, does anyone have any novel ideas or solutions other than ant spray for these little buggers? They seem to get everywhere and no matter how clean your house is they still hang around. They can get into bottles of water before you even open them and even after you do a chemical attack they later magically appear the moment there is anything anywhere.

My guess is the little f***ers are hiding behind the skirting boards but it would be nice to not have to take them out.

Or am I having a giraffe thinking that they can be gotten rid of?

We went round the house sealing every little crack and gap with sealant or that playdough stuff kids use. We don't have many problems, but you might just have to live with the teeny-tiny ants...

Never had any in the water bottles, mind!

I agree SF, that they can be a right pest. We've lived in a few houses in Thailand, and some infestations have been worse than others. You've got to be brutal with them (don't think about the Antz film, and imagine that you're breaking up relationships...) and get them at source. There's a very effective ant powder on the market which is sold in little flat tins. Don't know what it's called, but its got a drawing of an ant on the lid. Piece a hole in the side and sprinkle it in any crevice that you can find with ants coming and going. You can usually find where their nest is buy following the ant trail. They'll take the powder back to the nest and (hopefully) kill off the colony. It's the only way.

Good luck,

cruel but it works; if you find the nest pour boling water all around the area.

ARS ant killer works on all the various size ants I've encountered. It's those small granules of poison that they carry back to the nest. I used to be "kind" and grind the granules up to be sure the tiny ants could carry them, then I had a situation of large ants and after I put out the granules, I saw some tiny ones taking part, too. I guess they pinch off a manageable size bit and carry it back?

Yes, the small granules work really well. We usually buy the one that comes with a small plastic box which you put the granules in, and then simply stand in somewhere in the kitchen. The ants will find it so it's not necessary to place it close to the nest if you don't want to. Cheap and effective. :thumb:

You can kill as many ants as you like, but unless you kill the queen, they will just keep on breeding more. The little granules are the only thing I've found that works.

But you will have to use them frequently, because even if you kill the queen, and hence the colony, sooner or later a new colony will move in to replace the old colony. There is no permanent solution.

I don't like using spray inside the house, but have found that spraying around the entire outside perimeter of the outside of the house makes it more difficult for them to recolonize the inside.

Ant Chalk. Doesn't kill them because 99.9%+ won't even try to cross the line.

Would anybody mind posting a picture of this semi-miracle? :) I remember reading about it here a while back and went looking for it in Market Village but couldn't find it...

Try the little market on soi 56 and the main road. Walk in and go to the right all the way back. Haven't bought it in a while but every time I have needed it I got it there. I am pretty sure what they have is what the others are talking about. It comes with a plastic green see through container you put the stuff in that the ants go inside and take back to there nest.
Its probably sold many other places to but I know for sure this place will have it or can get it.

As nobody's posted a picture for you, Google Images gives what you are looking for (I think).

After reading this topic I bought a pack yesterday from the old shopping mall. At the back right hand side where the ant spray, mozzie coils etc are. Small blister pack about 10 cm long and 1 cm thick only. :thumb:

I've reduced all types of ant infestation in particularly in pantry with liberally distributing cinnamon sticks on shelves, in corners, nooks and crannies. Cinnamon is cheap, safe with foodstuffs and I also like the smell. Ants seem to avoid the cinnamon aroma.

Suits me, sir!

This is what you want. ARS Ant Killer.

Inside that little packet are thousands of tiny ant suicide pills.
You fill the plastic box up with the pills put it near where your ants are and then unleash your own personal holocaust on them.
They take the suicide pills back to their families who clearly haven't read the Aeneid of Virgil or they'd be aware of the whole Trojan Horse ploy and the entire colony is cleansed in a matter of days.

To further aggravate your enemy whilst foisting a slow and painful death upon him and his creed, you could visit the ARS web site here http://www.ars.co.th/product_ars.php?lang=eng&page=3 where the music alone may be enough to drive them from your home.

Don't make the mistake I did of asking for Ant Ars Killer, he doesn't take rejection well.
