Thailand to become like America?

Post by MisterClean »

Sweep up the street vendors, initiate police state, war on vice, register your business and bow down to corporate vampires. Dont you know that the more corporations that are allowed to operate, they will by nature sue to remove the street vendors who dont contribute to the tax base and suck 50% of their profits?

Wake up THAILAND, Keep Your Street Culture at all costs or suffer a depression such as the one America is enduring now.

My eyeballs. I see the Phase 1 happening now, and especially once huge multinational corporations move in, they are expected to generate a profit...maximum profits. Its the nature of the beast for the lead executive in the Thai corporate market to generate ever increasing profits in his or her sector, so once all other areas of profit making are exhausted, they will turn on the street culture, claiming public health and safety, and the madam of the Sofitel empire or what have you, whoever gets together and decides street culture MUST go the way of London, New York, will demand their reigning in the street culture.

Thailand to become like America?

Do you mean bankrupted by corrupt government, corrupt corporations, excess spending, almost worthless US$ etc.

The USA has already led most of the world to the precipice of financial destruction, not to mention countless wars and conflicts.

May god help us if Thailand follows USA any further.

This is a classic example of 'the self-referencing criteria', in other words 'what's good enough for uncle Sam is good enough for everyone else'. Happily Thailand has a strong culture and heritage that stretches back a little farther than that of the good ol' US of A and I think we can be confident that they will be able to resist such changes.

Then again, since America is the teat from which most 'corporate vampires' have been weaned, perhaps they should just kick out all Americans and their ilk who seem hell bent on causing trouble?

Thailand already is run, managed and above all owned by people having a much stronger, cohesive and much older culture than the American one; the Chinese.

So there is no immediate danger of any great changes in Thai (=Chinese) culture. Superficial changes, yes, profound ones, no.

Is Thailand still really under the influence of the States? During the 'American War' as Thais call it sure - the LOS was a useful go between and stopping off point in the fight against communism, and did pretty well out of it. That US influence still shows. But few countries now are immune to the growth of multinationals, and that is also showing.
I hope that Thailand is astute enough, and still independant enough, to see through the hype and just milk the multinational cash cows for all it can while retaining it's culture and independance.

why do you care about these blood-poisoning street cretins, with their bad eggs anyway? they might even make the advances in clean water that you so long for.

Besides which, anywhere these big corporations spring up, street vendors and little markets tend to surround to feed the workers.
