Hello and family of four looking to move early feb for a yr

Post by whinrose »

We are a family of four, with two girls aged 8-9 yrs looking to move to Hua hin for a "break". We have been perusing property to rent and also international schools versus tuition and are looking for ANY advice help and really some sort of idea of order for moving over. Do we just come and rent for a wk and find something more permanent from there or start to hunt now?

Is it cheaper to find a rental from the streets of Hua hin or from the safety of my aussie armchair?

My husband and I have travelled to bangkok, pattaya and phuket and me to koh samui but we feel that hua hin has all that we are seeking and would love to meet others that have just bit the bullet and moved over to live a beautiful life for a year and teach their kids some humility.

What do i need to know, what can you tell me thats gonna make the move easier? ANY comments will be gratefully received, thanks Lana

Welcome to the forum.

I would advise getting somewhere temporary for a month or so while you look around, get a feel for the place and talk to some of the expats that live here.

It is cheaper to find a rental from the streets but it can be a lot of leg work and a lot of hassle. Here are a couple of sites to get you going:

The forum's rental database (the last page has the cheapest ones): http://propertyhuahin.net/property.php?type=H&for=R
A guide to finding your own rental: http://www.expathuahin.com/renting-huahin.php

That expat site also has info on re-locating and schools.

Welcome to the forum. Take a look at this part of the forum: viewforum.php?f=42 Finding a school in Hua Hin that will keep your daughters current and up to a level with their Australian classmates may be a challenge. Pete

If it was me I think that the first thing I would be trying to establish is: what visa do I need for a family with kids at school?

Welcome to the board and in the near future in hh. iIf you are coming after march you could book a hotel for a week and find somewhere to stay. Do some research on schools and chose a location giving easy travelling. Websites can give an idea on prices but seeing the real place is the only way.

Ok good point with visa's. How hard is it to get a private tutor to keep them up with their education? I plan to either get an ed visa or use HH as a base to travel to a variety of other countries. Thats the point Professional, its a big adventure for the entire family and we feel the perfect time in all our lives to do something BALLSY. We have done it once, immigrating from NZ to Aus and now this time more of a extended holiday shouldn't e too tough. The only issue is, my husband will drive me mental being around all the time. He's fairly handy, does anyone know of any volunteering projects on the go he could build stuff for? If we have our way, we will be your way in roughly 8 wks! NUTS!

I'm pretty sure you get one dependant visa for having your children attending school,(i new a filipino lady last year who had one,her nowegian husband worked offshore and spent 4 weeks every 8weeks in thailand).
Then either yourself or husband can get edvisa,
Another school to look at is becc which is also advertised here for your kids.
You could also apply for a multi entrance visa which will give you 12months + 3months, i got one through the thai embassy in brisbane when i first moved over.
Most voluntary work sadly requires a work permit

Love your ideas! Teaching on Ed visa will give you about 30,000 a month, Obviously you have done most of your homework on visas. Will be incredible experience for the kids! Wish you best of luck and happiness!
