Rig work boots

Post by Rrikzee »

Can anyone tell me if I can pick up rig work boots in Hua Hin? Preferably Jallates or Redwings.

I've never seen any decent P.P.E. in Hua Hin and especially not these brands. You would probably have to look at BKK agents. If you are desperate I can find out more details as my company must source somewhere in Thailand. Shipping is pretty good in country if ordered over the phone.

If you can find Redwings they will probably cost around 8,000 Baht! The French ones I would not use.
A couple of places as follows may be worth a phone call. The Pangolin ones are locally made if I recall correctly. Not sure which brand North stock.

Both Homepro and Thai Watsuda do have safety boots but not of any high quality, I suppose they might do if you were desperate for a pair. I can imagine you might have problems if you have bigger feet as well!

Cheers guys, I guess I have to look elsewhere.

Nereus, I used to prefer the Jallates to Redwings. Thought they were more comfortable.

I very rarely had to buy my own boots, Company safety awards and such usually kept me going. My experience on a couple of occasions with Jallates was not good. Yes, I recall that they were softer, but also did not last very long.

I have not used the Pangolin Rig boots, but the shoes they were selling were good value.

I felt the need to respond to this post, only because it reminds me of my darling Dad who has worked offshore for a 'million' years, and oh my God he swears by his Red Wings. Nothing else will do! He has a stock in his cupboard that would fit out the whole of the North Sea Rigs, plus SEA, and more! :-)

Raffles, I think every rig worker had/has a loft full of boots and coveralls. I do, but unfortunately, its all in the UK in my ex-wifes house.

No but I have a spare pair of Blundstones. Brand new and almost identical to the Redbacks. Won't let them go less than what I paid in the U.K. though as I carried them over in baggage and know how difficult boots are to get in T.
Size 10 I think.....

I bought my first pair of steel toe Blundstones a while back. A very light weight boot and very very comfortable. Would highly recommend.

Rrikzee - I think you are absolutely right - boots and coveralls have been shipped to many parts of the world, much to my Mum's chagrin. My Dad is a lovely, generous guy and he would give you a pair of his 'acquired over the years' size 8 boots for the price of a pint and a chat anytime. However, his cupboard is not in Hua Hin at the moment. :-)

That shop is still there, I am not sure if they will have what you want, but they may be able to order.
I have bought Redwings in Ratchaburi, but that was a few years ago when all the power station work was ongoing. Also Robinson's department store in Ratchaburi have.
