Hi expat community

Post by Thomas1 »

Hi everybody 8) ,

Me and my colleague Alex, both geography students of the University of Vienna, are currently staying in Hua Hin working on a research project on the topic of farang life in thailand, their lifestyle, their problems, staying conditions, housing options etc.

We would be very grateful if some of you guys could spare some time for either personal encounters or e-mail respectively pm-contact, answering a few questions regarding the above topic.

Kind regards,
Thomas and Alex

P.S.: If you'are interested and have some time for us, do not hesitate to e-mail me to thomaskubelka(at)gmx(dot)at, thanks :)

Hello Thomas

You will not be able to read PM's until you have made 10 posts so maybe you would want to list your email address but write it in full eg dot com as email addresses not allowed also I believe.

Hi Thomas1

I'd be willing to participate but be aware a similar one was conducted by a university in the
UK a few months back where a number of us were interviewed

Personal opinion (not Moderator action)

Can I warn people that the previous survey was supported by a lot of supporting documentation. At this stage, this is little more than cold calling, and could be little more than phishing for a way into people's homes.

I hope that I'm wrong, and that Thomas will substantiate his study before people get too drawn in.

I agree with BB..I am always "on guard" when it comes to surveys, all the data is stored very often. What became of that young lady that did the survey some time back? Does anyone know?

The young lady in question, Kate, regularly posts updates following her 'Lifestyle Migration study'. I've got a link somewhere which I'll post if anybody is interested. I suspect others she interviewed will have it too

IMHO it is not very professional to cold call, with no supporting evidence. A professional set up would be up front from the outset.

Not at all. I am trying to point out the stupidness of some older people (maybe younger as well) in relation to cold callers. My own father was one of those, and I had to cancel his cards etc on several occassions.

I was near the front of the queue to help with the previous survey. However, lack of transparency on this occassion sounds significant warning bells with me.

Please let us know how your meeting with Thomas and friends go.

Well big boy, it would seem that you are having some success!

I would suggest you take a leaf out of other moderator's books and keep a low profile.
