Noisy neighbour shot dead

Post by buksida »

A man shot and killed his 36-year-old neighbour on Friday for playing his loud music and noisily revving his motorbike.

Komsan Traithong, 22, told Muang district police in Bung Kan that his eight-month-old child was unable to sleep because Yuthana Chantham, who lived across from his house, was making too much noise.

Yuthana was playing loud music and making loud noises as he drove around on a motorcycle, constantly pressing on the gas pedal, he said.

He asked the man many times to stop but the man did not comply, he added.

Mr Komsan went over to Yuthana's house with a pistol to threaten him to quiet down. He said he fired the pistol in self-defence, claiming that the victim was going to harm him.

Pol Col Sarayuth Chuenpichai, chief of the district police, said Mr Komsan was charged with premeditated murder.

Thoughts: I've had my fair share of noisy bastards here and have at times wanted to do exactly that. Its a shame that the "police" are not interested and totally ineffective at dealing with these issues, there is an unhealthy obsession with noise in Thailand!

But it goes further than just making the noise! It is the righteous indignation shown were they honestly believe it is their god given right to not have any concern for anybody else, whatever it maybe. The prime example being driving on the roads. There is a p*ick in Bangkok near my Condo with a load speaker that I would gladly throttle with my bare hands if I could catch the barstewerd!

My dear old Mother used to quote: :"no sense, no feelings", and after 25 years of putting up with it I think that quote fits a lot of what goes on here. :guns:

Each night I have to put up with noisy music from the surrounding bars..But it is my belief that each bar knows what they are doing when they go out & buy big f/o speakers, then mount them in the doorway facing out onto the Soi..then once they've hooked up to the monster amp they have then gained status & power & dare I say control within that frontal area.
(Next add out front 3-4 L/Bs, a table full of Sangsom, Soda & the ice-bucket..& the scene is set).
There's no customers in these bars, but the L/B's & tough tattoo'd B/Gs sit defiently as others scowl at them...Remember here the making of loud noise is big AND clever..ask any 6-wheel truck driver..T.I.T.

Sorry, US, but while I sympathise, that's a bit like buying a house next to a pig farm and then complaining about the smell!

I think this topic is about noisy neighbours in residential areas - not levels of Thai techno and dwindling punters in Hua Hin's red light district...

Yes, a lot of Thais are obsessed with noise, hence the reason why they immediately have their exhaust pipes changed the minute they buy a new bike, car, truck, and etc. The more noise their machine makes, the faster it goes, and the more desirable it becomes.

Fortunately for me however, most noise doesn't really get me too upset. In fact, we have two young guys sharing a house next door to us who frequently crank up their music, but mostly only for an hour or two in the mornings. Personally I find it to be a breath of fresh air since I'd rather have them living next door to me instead of some of our other neighbors who just sit in the rocking chairs all day, looking for things to complain about.

Anyway, to get back to the original topic............I don't think the guy had the right to kill his neighbor because of the noise. Could he not have called the police to come and speak to his neighbor? Saying that, when you fire a gun it makes a lot of noise, so I guess we're right back to square one.....noise addiction. :?

I applaud the man for what he did. Sorry if he has to go to jail.
