Hey Guys,
I'm new here, planning to move to Hua Hin in September to work on my online business and learn to Kitesurf.
My question is fairly simple:
- Which mobile phone provider should I choose if I NEED steady 3G on my Iphone?
I read this is quite dependent on regio, so which one should I choose in Hua Hin?

True would probably be your best provider though AIS are offering 3G now, not sure about coverage but it is better the closer to town center you get. More info here: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=18067
There is no such thing as a "stable" connection in Thailand.

Also note that the different companies operate on different frequencies, so you may have to buy your handset from that particular service provider you've decided on.
A side note: True seems to have the widest coverage to include Wifi so I have jumped from DTAC. Quite happy with the service as is, but I'm not a power user.
My 'dumbphone' is still on AIS.

Re: Which provider for stable 3G reception
Thanks for the replies!
Basically for my phone I need to be able to check my email and reply to an email within 5 minutes walking distance or so. So no power user in terms of video streaming etc.
Hope true will do. I've got an iphone 5, does that say anything about the compatibility with Thai frequencies?

Re: Which provider for stable 3G reception
I use an iPhone 5 and my wife a 4S on DTAC and we have great service all over this area... I also use it as a hotspot for our 2 iPads and great service doing that also... Our phones are both factory unlocked AT&T phones, no issues with there use... GSM freq here are covered by the iPhones ...

Re: Which provider for stable 3G reception
If you're learning to kite surf does that mean you are out Pak Nam Pran/Khao Khalok way? If so make sure you get the True Move H package, it works great out here but the standard sim is pretty poor.
Re: Which provider for stable 3G reception
I use True Move sim card in my GPS tracker - it is connected to 3G permanently and works everywhere. I seen only a cople places between Hua Hin and Pranburi where 3G does not work properly.
Re: Which provider for stable 3G reception
Probably anyone but DTAC. They don't seem to have a clue what they are doing re. 3G. Having used DTAC for over 8 years and not wanting the trouble of having to move my number to AIS or true, that's where I started.
Obviously the first step before buying a 3G contract is to find out whether your house is covered. So, I asked In market village for a map showing the area covered. don't have. show me on the internet. no. I checked later and couldn't find it either.
went back in a week later (2 days ago) determined to find out, and after 5 minutes and many backward and forward exchanges between thai staff, they said the southern limit was only soi 102 (!). AIS went past soi 116 4 years ago with 3G. But, DTAC still have no map, so no idea if that was just a guess.
