Under the fishery law, anywhere within 5,400 metres of the shore is considered a marine conservation zone where fishing is prohibited. However, the petitions have fallen on deaf ears and the use of destructive fishing gear, including trawlers and clam-dredgers, was still rampant in the area ...
Deaf ears and corrupt officials seem to be a common theme when dealing with environmental protection issues in Thailand.

Notice as well the the attackers will be tracked down and "fined". Much good that will do. The only way to sort them out would be to torch their boats......problem solved. :naughty:
