Old thread but still relevant, plus as with everything else, the options keep changing.

I have an external HD, but Win 10 will not back up my files, claiming it does not recognise the drive. There are a couple of important word files on the drive which I can open, so the drive is working and also shows on the network.

I keep getting nag ads from "Backblaze" cloud storage site, as I did look at it. So what is the opinions of ANY cloud storage?

Also, at one time I had Acronis True Image installed, but it disappeared awhile ago when I bought a new computer.
So is it better to use some similar software program and use an external HD, Cloud Storage, OR both? :?

It appears that the drive does work then so I would just backup your data manually rather than relying on any Windows software to do it.

The two most popular cloud options at the moment are Google Drive and Dropbox, both give a gig or so free.

If your stuff is really important I would use both cloud and hard drive to backup.

As I'm getting a new computer, probably today, I've been going through my files on this one and cleaning out.

I must admit that I had very little that was worth keeping. Music doesn't count for me these days as I can get it all "live" off UTube. The photos I have are important and are hopefully backed up. I eventually downloaded 10 years worth of UK bank statements for tax reasons. Books are extremely important but they're maybe saved on my Calibre library - I'm not taking any chances though.

And that's about it. I suppose that that's indicative of my sad life. For me lately, I've found that not a lot matters but that that does is obviously worth saving.

Chok dii, thank you lock down for getting me to do something.

If you only have a few documents and a book collection, a USB stick would serve as a good backup instead of a hard drive.

I have thousands of movies, documentaries, and albums I want to keep so need multiple drives.

I tell you what. The only reason I'm getting a new computer is because I sincerely hope that my Kindle works with Windows 10.

That's it. Really.
