Just a comment... bureaucracy gone mad

Bureaucracy gone mad...

Now to do Extension of Stay for a teacher. we are required to submit 15 documents to Immigration.
For the Work Permit renewal. 13 documents.

If one queries why such and such documents is required, you are met with a blank stare.

Maybe they've cottoned on to an increase in scams. Solution? Add more paper work. TIT

I work month on, month off in Angola, if you think the bureaucracy is bad for visas in Thailand then you should try getting a visa for Angola, it's a complete nightmare!!

Please don't remind me. As a teacher I now have to submit a medical certificate each year. When informed of this by my uni a few weeks ago, I asked if it needed to mention anything specific or if a general letter stating I was fit to teach was enough. Nothing specific, I was told, but it must be issued by a doctor at a hospital, not a clinic. I didn't bother to ask why...

The next day I was due for a regular blood test and check-up by my specialist at Ratchaburi hospital, who kindly produced said letter. A week later I was told this was useless, as the letter had to mention 6 specific illnesses I was free of. :banghead: I sent my doctor an email with a copy of this info, asking if she could possibly prepare a new letter and have it sent to me by post. Out of the question, I was informed, it would have to be collected in person. Again, I didn't bother asking why. Mrs D-M went to Ratchaburi yesterday to collect it, where she was given an earful by the doctor, who appears to think it pretty outrageous that I should presume to communicate with her by email (I've been seeing her for over 4 years, and she gave me her email address...) - none of her Thai patients would dream of doing so. Did I think I was still in the UK? etc. etc. :cuss:

I took the new letter to the uni on Friday, whereupon the poor unfortunate admin officer looked at it, hummed and hahed for a minute, and looked very uncomfortable. Obviously there was a problem, but he didn't want to tell me. His English was worse than my Thai, but between us we established that 5 of the specific illnesses were mentioned, but not the sixth. Syphilis. Saints preserve me!

I shall now hie myself to Hua Hin Clinic for yet another syringe to be stuck into my arm. I'm beginning to look like a heroin addict...

And the whole process will have to be repeated annually, of course. :cuss:

I'm so glad you started this thread, bapak - I've been wanting to unload this little rant all day!

Medical Requirements..
Medical certificate issued in Thailand, not more than six months old. The applicant must be of sound mind and not suffer from alcoholism, narcotic addiction, leprosy, acute tuberculosis, elephantiasis or tertiary syphilis. All applicants will be required to have a blood test for tertiary syphilis

A couple of extras I forgot re WP..

Three passport photographs 3 x 4 cm. It has been reported that applicants not wearing a shirt and tie in the photo may be refused

Applicants married to a Thai should also provide the ID card of the spouse, marriage certificate and any child's birth certificate

But now that you guys have been through it once and know what is required, think how easy it will be next year... think of it as a learning experience. :P
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Not a problem in either case before having to cope with 'the system', but now...

When the 2015 ASEAN gates open, will all those people be required to have a work permit? If so, perhaps they now begin to make life difficult preparing for the arrival of that day? Pete

Medical Certificate not older than six months??? I had once one refused because it was a day or ten old.
We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.
