It's almost time to top my Thai bank account up to let it season ready to renew my visa extension. I went onto online banking today, and it helpfully says that my account is blocked for International Transfer.

I've tried to phone the UK today, but I can't get past the poxy machine asking for information that I've never had. Does anybody have the number of a human being who I could chat to regarding the problem at NatWest Bank please (without having to get past a machine first)?

Not sure if it will be a machine but I have a Black account and if you call 44 1904 275 858 you will get the card protection service which should respond and either transfer you or let you know what number to ring. One of my cards has 44 1268 508 018 for customer service from abroad.

BB you could try this number +441634890876. The system will ask for your password that you have set up ( I assume you had one for your debit card before you left for Thailand) and it will also ask for certain numbers from your PIN number then it will take you through a menu at the end it will ask you do you want to speak to an advisor. That is the option you want.

I use that number from all over the World and never had any trouble.

If you don't have a password (which is normally your DOB) and a PIN number then you are in trouble.

Thanks guys - panic over regarding the phone number. I found that if I ignored the machine's requests (phoned 0050044 8705888444) I eventually got passed to a human being.

Problem now is that my card has been voided, and they need to send me a new one (they're sending it to Thailand , so I'll probably never see it). Even if it arrives, there is little chance that it will be in time to transfer the funds for visa purposes.

Plan C - transfer the cash to my brother, and get him to send it across

Don't worry BB they usually send 3 cards, one for the customs man, one for the postman and one for the account holder.
It's just a case of who can get to the ATM first.

BB, try http://www.gethuman.com, it's a database of all the numbers you might need plus the keyboard shortcuts to get past their ridiculous automated answer systems and the quickest way to reach an operator.

Of course, after that you're on your own and stuck with the goons who answer the phone, who may be even less helpful!

Thanks everybody. Just an update, even Plan C is not easy. I transferred the money to my brother's account so that he could transfer it. He finished work early to transfer the money - the bank said, "No." The money has to be in his account for 24 hours before he can transfer it

A good job that I didn't leave this until the last minute.
