La Rumba - soi 94
La Rumba - soi 94
Lucky enough to be invited to the pre launch of this new South American restaurant called La Rumba last night... we were treated to an awesome tasting menu of 10 or more dishes.... all i can say is that the food was fabulous, prepared by chefs from Venezuela who have a massive passion for making mouthwatering food! Great pizza also!!
Will keep everyone posted about opening etc..

Yes, my girlfriend was there and has shown me the menu as well as some photos of the food. It all looked delicious, well presented and certainly a place I will be visiting. My girlfriend confirms it is officially open on the 10th.

We were invited also..Wifey took down the directions from the owners, so off we set.. & spent a half hour searching for La Rumba..which my beloved thought was called 'Aroma', & assured me it was on the WEST side of the rail-track on 94. Finally we gave up & came home..

on to 94 from main rd. on your right midway or so down. joes bar is just a bit past on your left. if you hit the tracks you have gone to far.

Yes got my girlfriend to describe where it was, took 5 minutes to discover which side of the railway tracks it was. I have an idea of where it is now but Thais are not the greatest with their location skills, usually a finger pointing in a non descript direction is all I get (if lucky).Arlo wrote:on to 94 from main rd. on your right midway or so down. joes bar is just a bit past on your left. if you hit the tracks you have gone to far.

Big, indoor/outdoor place, about 50-100m before the r/w tracks. Terrible time of year to open.
As for directions, I nominate as the most useless piece of info -------- Near 7/11

My experience is that most Thais are bad with directions. I am sure not all of them are though.dalmatiandave wrote:Yes got my girlfriend to describe where it was, took 5 minutes to discover which side of the railway tracks it was. Re: La Rumba - soi 94
My wife and I went for a meal there tonight and it was excellent. The place has a very good feel about it and I wish them well. Towards the end of the evening they put on Latin American music and a young couple danced a Latin dance that I can't spell but begins with M and sounds like a cake!
I hope they have their marketing strategy worked out as it is a wee bit out of the way and slightly pricey. Although the wine is very good value and since mrs Dundrillin is unlikely to be known as Dundrinkin that is a consideration!
I mentioned that I heard about them via the Forum and I hope they have the good sense to approach to ask for an advertorial as I feel that could really help them. I also feel they should put on the music earlier, make a feature of the dancing and possibly run a dance class.
The only downside for me was that I saw a rather large gentleman at a table and I got it into my head it was Big Boy. After much hand wringing I approached and asked him if he was involved with the HuaHin Forum. He looked at me as if I was mad and said EH! In an accent of unknown origin. I felt a twatt but you have to try sometimes.

You're a foreigner sat in a restaurant in Thailand and someone comes up to you and says 'Hello. Big Boy?' the last thing you expect when you turn around is another foreigner (and a man to boot!).
It must have been quite a shock for him.

... and from reading his posts, I'm not sure Big Boy lives up to his name any longer...

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Re: La Rumba - soi 94
I nearly went in there last night but at about 7pm it was empty, I instead went to another restaurant in Soi 94. I will go in probably next week after I get back from Chiang Mai. I am hoping though that a strange man does not come up and talk to me, now if it is a nice lady that would be ok.Frank Hovis wrote:You're a foreigner sat in a restaurant in Thailand and someone comes up to you and says 'Hello.
