My Thai wifes visa application for the UK has completed, and it is ready for pickup in BKK. I am up there next week, so would like to pick it up. As well as the receipt, the instructions from VFS also say my wife has to provide a letter of authority. What does this mean ?
Is it just a hand written letter saying owner of passport AAnnnnnn gives xxxxxx (me) the authority to pick up the passport ? Or does it need to be notarised ? Is there a standard format ? Has anyone done this before with VFS ?
I should point out that it appears there is no way to get in contact directly with VFS to ask.
Thanks

Re: Letter of authority to collect Visa
Can't help you on that one. However, it might be worth asking the question of the Embassy - ConsularEnquiriesBangkok@fco.gov.uk
I've always found that they reply quickly - ie within a day.
They should be able to point you in the right direction if you don't get a reply from someone who's been through this before.

Re: Letter of authority to collect Visa
This is all that is required. This is used by my company for collection of passports on behalf of another employee. Change the wording around to suit your circumstances

Good info.
Does it need to notarised? You know, an official stamp?

^^ No it does not need any stamp or need to be notorised. Mine is always printed on company letter headed paper i'm not sure if this makes any difference....I wouldn't think so?

Re: Letter of authority to collect UK Visa
Just an update. I produced a letter as suggested by Bristolian. No headed notepaper though.
At the VFS building they didn't really look at it, and didn't keep it. It was very quick getting the paperwork and passport (visa included) back. Less than 5 minutes in and out. Longer waiting for the lift going up.
