Tourism minister mulls wristbands, curfews for tourists

Post by PeteC »

Here's a good one. Let's tag everyone rather than cleaning up our act. In addition, they're actually talking about electronic tracking devices for tourists. Bloody unbelievable. (emoticon for totally disgusted...we need to get one of those.) Pete

EDIT: Both ideas though are very efficient when identifying bodies.

I'm actually speechless over this one. Words just won't come, and thoughts are gone. Maybe they can change the country's name to Jurassic Park? Don't miss the part in the article about a
"local minder" . That's being discussed also.

Just mentioned this "idea" to the wife, who hasn't seen it on Thai media yet. Her immediate and first reply was..."...just think how much money someone will make from that...".

Interesting, no? I hadn't even thought of that, but it really shows how much things need to be changed to get even Thai people to start thinking governance is legitimate. Pete

Why should we be surprised?

Don't bother to tackle the issue of local gangsters because they don't exist. Let's not bother to train a professional police force and pay them a living wage and thereby avoid the corruption.

It's far better to consider money spending (making) ideas that will make tourists feel like prisoners on parole.
I am sure that she thinks this will improve tourist confidence and numbers. Unbelievable!!

"Local minder" I think North Korea does that, wonder how it's working for them?

That is indeed the crux of the matter in a nut shell, and not just this issue but the entire system here. The thinking is skewed in a manner that may be forever incomprehensible to anyone not Thai.

I know this is Thailand, and I should wash my mouth out for having such thoughts, but why not survey holidaymakers to ask what would make them feel safer in Thailand?

Surely this has to be preferable to asking the Ministry of Silly Ideas.

That I would agree with, for short-short and bikini girls...if they're not fat and ugly as someone else said recently.

Besides a body size condom, I'm sure they would answer a decent and visible police force.

Third could be perishable expiration dates in 7-11 not covered up by a Thai Customs department sticker. Fourth, a "does she really love me" meter for single men to use, and a bribe meter?

Well, a bracelet or some kind of tracking device sounds really reasonable. I'm more worried over the next step.
