Super 14 Rugby Union

Post by chelsea »

Just a quick note to let anyone know that is intersted that the new season of the Super14 Rugby Union competition starts tonight.

The competition is between club sides from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, and is of a very good standard, with most of those countries inetrnational players competing in the nvarious teams

Used to be called Super12 but there is now another team from Australia called the Western Force (based here in Perth) and another one from South Africa that now makes up the 14.

Keep any eye out on the ABC Asia Paciffic stations as I think they are showing some of the games live. Will be games tonight and tomorrow as well.

Watched the West Force play the Brumbies tonight at Goanna's. As expected the Brumbies ran out winners, but the Perth team put up a creditable performance. Pity the ABC didn't have commentary, had the crowd sound mikes on, but nothing else. Made for some interesting commentary of our own  None-the-less, I will be looking forward to the next game at Goanna's (how many times can I mention where I'll be - Goanna's  ) at 10pm tomorrow, a good lead in to the 6 nations France V Ireland at midnight. Hope to see you there.

It might have something to do with the fact that it is only shown here in Australia on the Foxtel network. It is not shown at all on the free to air networks.
I watched the 1st half of the Western Force game, and was quite a good performace overall from the Western Force.
They had a crowd of more than 37,000 which was excellent foir the 1st game, hope that it carries on that way.

Just watched the Crusaders v Highlanders game on ABC Asia pacific. Its great to be able to see the games.
What makes me really angry is the coverage of the six nations...!
I cant even find coverage of the England game tonight or the Wales game come to that.
The Ireland v France game is being shown at midnight, delayed by two hours! Why you ask? I'll tell you why - Bloody Fu**ing football. That shi**y crappy game where overpaid ponces fall about the grass feigning injury.
Its on all the bloody time...boring, boring, boring. The six nations is only on once a year so - LEAVE IT ALONE. I'm sure all the brylcreemed, braided, alice banded, manicured, mercedes driving twinkle toed boys will still be their after the six nations has finished.
Makes me mad as hell. :guns:

Randy, as far as I know, the six nations in conducted over a series of 5 weekends during the season.
I am not sure what the arrangement for showng them on Thailand TV, but I know from previous posts, that the 5 nations are shown at some of the HHAD sponsers bars.
May pay to check with them to see when they are showing them.

Randy, that is one of the best excuses that I have heard for sampling a few pints of Guiness in my life.
Unfortunately the Crawfords bar was only in it building stages in June when I was in HH and spent most of my time in the London Lounge just before it was sold.
I did meet the owner of Crawfords briefly one day while he was in the London Lounge (watching his builders to make sure that they were actually doing what he was paying them for).
I will certainly pay the bar a visit, on my next trip to HH.

Randy, I enjoy a pint of black with Ken as much as anybody, but I also enjoyed the live Scotland / Wales game in Goanna's last night. A great game to watch, with positives for both teams to be taken away. ( Not that they'll be any match for the Wallabies in the next World Cup ) But I digress......There is at least the Sunday night game being shown live. I guess the soccer boys need their beauty sleep on Sundays.............

Despite missing half of last seasons Grand Slam team, I believe Wales were awarded a penalty try after embarrassingly scrummaging Australia to death in the recent 24-22 Welsh win. This would have been unheard of 3 or 4 years ago.

The Wallabies will therefore need to stop pandering to the rugby league obsessed Australian media and re-learn how to scrummage and win line out ball if they are going to compete at the next world cup (which should have been in Japan IMO).
