Car insurance, How much for vans?

Post by Rider »

Need some input on this one guys.

I'm after upgrading the insurance to 'type 1' the company minivans (They are VW Caravelles 2.5 liter and are between 10 and 14 years old) which are 8 and 11 seaters.

I am told that type 1 is the best grade of insurance and is comparable with the 'comprehensive' insurance in the UK.

Yet so far the prices we have been quoted have been between 10,000 baht up to 21,000 baht!

Does anyone have insurance on Toyota HIACE or just normal cars etc that can be used as a 'sliding' benchmark/reference.

Thanks.

Rider,

The quotes seem on the cheap side if anything. What is important in the West and maybe important here is coverage for passengers. If you are transporting customers you may need to look into this. In the UK and the US. Insurance for public service vehicles is about 2.5 times the insurance for the same vehicle operated privately.

To give you a guide, I have been quoted 19,000 Baht for my truck for the top level of insurance. That will cover passenger injuries but not if it connected with a business.

Nearly all insurance here is underwritten in the UK so I would expect some reflection.
