Hmm...

Just tried Googling to see whether other tourist towns are as devout as HH when it comes to closing bars for Makha Buddha, and found the date of Feb 19th quoted for 2019..

It's a national and the last time I was on Samui on Visakha Bucha they were the same strict as Hua Hin.

Now working on a cunning plan to make a visa run on Feb 19th

Do they shut down the bars for Makha Buddha in Cambodia - does anyone know?

Are you really saying you can’t go 24 hours without alcohol?

I can spend an evening drinking diet coke without the slightest difficulty (although without alcohol in my system I am then a near total insomniac)

- But sitting in my room with the bars closed outside is so very boring..

Besides, alcohol imbibed in a controlled manner reduces stress, deepens the rest from sleep and creates a sense of pleasure. Medical researchers hate those benefits, because they are so hard to measure, so they ignore them.

By controlled I don't mean the ludicrous unit counts that are published, but a level of intake that does not cause overt intoxication nor consuming alcohol in strengths that cause significant dehydration and resulting hangovers.

How much one person can safely consume varies enormously, but after forty years of drinking 80 to 100 units per week, I'm personally in very good shape, health-wise. However I avoid strengths of individual drinks that are much above 20% and an evening average of much above 10%

Whilst I have been known to get drunk - it's very infrequent..

Uncle Tom, you can stock up a day before at your local 7/11, refill in a different container and have a romantic evening down on the beach with your chosen one...

Cheers,
B.

and have a romantic evening down on the beach
Years ago a whole gang + assorted bar girls would head down to Dolphin Bay for an overnight stay, a beach BBQ, five a side football on the sand and with well stocked ice boxes to keep us adequately lubricated.

Sadly that's died a death these days, but it would be nice to revive it..

A hotel in Pattya has a rooftop pool. They sell tickets for a few days before--Admission, buffet and 2 drinks. They also own a gogo and the girls from there and a few freelancers are the 'hostesses'

I heard that due to forthcoming elections there will be two "Dry days":-
6pm Saturday 16 March to 6pm Sunday 17 March - for advance voting
6pm Saturday 23 March to 6pm Sunday 24 March - Election Day.

If so, I guess bars will be closed, and where to watch the 6NS Rugby?

Bars usually only get told the day before a closure in Hua Hin - anyone have any further info on this?

The Election Commission (EC) of Thailand has confirmed alcohol bans this weekend and next in preparation for the kingdom’s general election scheduled for Sunday March 24.

In a press conference earlier this month, Pol. Col. Jarungwit Phumma, secretary of the EC, declared that the sale and distribution of alcohol will be forbidden nation-wide from this Saturday (March, 16) at 6pm until Sunday at 6pm since voters living outside their electorates will be casting their voices this Sunday, reported Thairath.

The prohibition will also come into effect again on election weekend, from Saturday, March 23, at 6pm until polling day, Sunday, March 24, at 6pm.

Sale and distribution is forbidden, but why are all bars closed ? Because alcohol sale is main income.
I remember to be in Bangkok several years ago on election week end. Several bars were open, but no alcohol sale.
