Yet another crazy idea thought up by some self-important minion in the Ministry of Ed. It'll be a nice little earner for the people (Thais?) who write the exam, and I agree with what Pete said about the marking. What's wrong with backpackers doing a bit of teaching while they're here? They're normally employed doing fun listening and speaking classes at schools, and at least the kids get to listen to a native speaker (the Thai teachers usually do the grammar classes).
Just had a go at a C2 test, and it ain't difficult. Have a look here:http://www.examenglish.com/CEFR/cefr.php

Not my area of expertise really, but why do they have to change the system, just because it is Thailand?

Re: The English language
English is only one of 24 official languages in the EU. Only 13% of it's members speak English but it will remain one of the official languages because of Eire.Bamboo Grove wrote:I was having a few beers with some friends on Friday evening and a question was brought up. Now that the UK has opted to leave EU, will the English language be as important in the future as it is now or will it fade away in the future and some other language become more important? We had some interesting opinions on that one.

Re: The English language
True but we weren't talking about the official language status but it's importance compared to other languages. Whatever, imho there'll be no change in my lifetime.

Thailand[edit]
Most high school programs in Thailand use the following 8 point grading system
Percentage Grade Description GPA
80–100 A Excellent 4.0
75–79 B+ Very Good 3.5
70–74 B Good 3.0
65–69 C+ Fairly Good 2.5
60–64 C Fair 2.0
55–59 D+ Poor 1.5
50–54 D Very Poor 1.0
0–49 F Fail 0.0
[8] [9] [10] [11] [12] [13]
For graduate and post-graduate studies, universities sometimes use a 10-point grading system (see below)
Grade Description GPA
A Excellent 4.0
A− Almost Excellent 3.67
B+ Very Good 3.33
B Good 3.00
B− Fairly good 2.67
C+ Almost good 2.33
C Fair 2.00
C− Almost fair 1.67
D Poor 1.00
F Fail 0.00
Re: The English language
I've always found that schools and universities use the A,B,C etc the same way as we do. Never heard of it being reversed.Thailand[edit]

For some reason the columns didn't post correctly but I'm sure it becomes obvious.
Re: The English language
Most schools use numbers not letters, butthe grades are correct. Apart frtom 0-49, which is something I do not recognise lol.

Seems a bit racist... or is that an adjective... dum dum dum dum duuuuuu lolBristolian wrote:^^ sorry but racialist is not allowed. It's both a noun and adjective depending on how you use it
It's much better to stick with racist which is only a noun and much easier to handle
Re: The English language
I'm all for some evolutionary simplifications to the written language. For example, combination of words that end and begin with the same letter; gethat, skillevel, carental, and probably a few thousand more. Any merit, or is it going backwards to the days of Olde English? maybe. Pete
