New road to run alongside railway track

Post by Jaime »

From Hua Hin Today web site (02 May 06):

Supansa Kraiwaad

HUA HIN vice mayor, Khun Somboon Chartkitcharoen, announces that the municipality is planning to construct a new road which goes along the railway from Bohfai village, ends at Suansonpradipat area. The road will be on the east side of the train track. Its width will be 11 metres. The municipality is renting land from State Railway of Thailand in order to construct this road to help reduce traffic in Hua Hin and allow commuters to avoid heavy traffic in the city.

Hua Hin municipality takes this chance to make an announcement to all residents who live in the area where the road will be constructed. They should consider moving before the project is implemented. Anyone who's not sure if they are in the range of the construction should contact Hua Hin municipality for details. Those who need to move will receive help from the municipality who will provide land for their new homes.

Khun Somboon estimates that this project will be finished by 21 June 2006. In order to finish the project on time, he urges Hua Hin residents and visitors to provide full co-operation to officers who take care of this project. "The municipality apologizes for any inconvenience this project will cause. However, after the construction of this road is finished Hua Hin residents will benefit a better flow of traffic in Hua Hin city," says Khun Somboon.

In England and other countries, I suppose edicts like this would be referred to as Compulsory Purchase Orders.
Bearing in mind that the project will be finished by the 21st June, I'm happy that people have been given "due notice".
After all, bulldozers went into the centre of BKK not long ago, didn't they?

I quake at the similarities...not Pattaya = HH but, what is happening with infrastructure. Here also on the east side of Sukhumvit right along the RR tracks, they are building a new road, 4 lanes, that will exit off Rt #36 coming from BKK/Chonburi and run all the way past Jomtien before it joins up with Sukhumvit again for the journey onward towards Sattahip. They say this will take 10,000 cars a day off of Sukhumvit coming through Pattaya central. That means Pattaya will then have 5 north/south roads...this new one, Sukhumvit, 3rd road/Tappraya/Jomtien beach road, 2nd road and Pattaya Beach road. 2nd and Beach are one way (opposite) which helps. Confused?..so are all the drivers. Drink up and go for it! Pete

Various questions here.

1 Bohfai village and Suansonpradipat are fairly big areas, anyone have any idea of a more exact start and finish piont?
2, Why are the commuters not using the existing by pass?
3, How will a road from Bofai to Suansonpradipat reduce the traffic on a Friday evening getting to the hotels and guest houses in the centre of town?
4, How will the same road reduce the traffic queing to enter and exit the new shopping mall?
5, Today is the 6th of May 2006, the completion date of June 21st 2006 is 46 days away! Am I missing something?

Clive,

Don't worry. This is the umpteenth road improvement scheme that has been announced by whoever is happens to be running the Testabahn at the time. Not one single on has even been started. The only widening that I am aware of is the road that lnks Chom Sin Road with the road to Nong Plub and Pala U.

This made very little diffference to the traffic situation in Hua Hin.

We will all be dead before anybody lifts a shovel.

The list of promised projects announced by the Provincial and Ampoe authorites are too numerous to count.

Removal of illegal beach properties, pedestrianisation of Soi Poolsuk, Soi Bintabaht and Soi Selakarm, doubling of the railroad tracks (National Thai/Italian project), enforcement of traffic regulations, removal of teeange gangs, moving girlie bars across Petchkasem Road etc. etc. etc.

Things only happen if there is some commercial advantage. Making the roads in Hua Hin safer and more free flowing has no commercila benefits whatsoever.

BTW you can already drive all the way from Soi 106 to past Cha Am without touching Petchkasem.
