Don't chirp in very often but Essenso 3 in 1 has been my favourite 3 in 1 for the last year or so...
Bought from Big C...I do enjoy real coffee....but most mornings i'm rushing around so instants
are what fire me up in the morning...tried them all over the years... Dao Coffee was my favourite
but it disappeared...bought a load last time in Mukdahan ( Border near Laos ) it was as i remembered...
but Essenso still gets my vote...but each to their own........regards to everyone

Last month I bought a “phin filter” in Vietnam, I was not sure how to best use it until I saw this charming video today.

How-to-Brew-Vietnamese-Coffee.wmv:

I followed the advice and it gives a cup of strong coffee but it’s a bit slow to filter through and I was glad I ‘warmed’ the cup first.

BTW the coffee in Vietnam was very good but they sometimes added sugar and milk before serving. I’ve read most coffee in Vietnam is Robusta which is the cheaper, less flavoured type, but it tasted fine.

I tried my Essenso 2-in-1 earlier today, tastes ok but very milky; I had to add a stick of Nescafe for a more coffee taste.

Earlier this month my wife returned from Vietnam and brought back with her packets of the free coffee provided in her hotel room - i tried two and they were frankly disgusting. One was Trung Nguyen claimed to be the No.1 coffee.
Never again!

I keep forgetting to post this. I've found that water temperature makes a big difference, at least with the instants and freeze dried I've tried. With Red Cup, I pour when the first bubble arises from the bottom of the electric kettle. Pour at full boil? I made that mistake only once.

I've been using Daviodoff, it's more expensive but tastes like coffee.

I used to love Nescafe, but now the taste is different.

My stocks of Moccona have almost gone. In my quest for a suitable alternative, my son produced a jar (picture below) that we received in a Tesco hamper at Christmas. I tried it, and it suited MY taste buds. May be too cheap and nasty for many :D .

I've been to Tesco this morning, but they don't sell it :?

Has anybody noticed it on sale anywhere please?

I'd forgotten about that. I tasted that in a cafe some time ago and bought some. It was ground coffee rather than instant and I found the caramel content gave it a distinct flavour. At the time I'm pretty sure I bought it in Tesco.
However, as they appear to do an instant coffee, I'd be very interested.
I'll also keep my eyes open.

Having tried many different brands here over the years, I prefer this one - the brown pack is 100% coffee granules. You can buy a small sachet in 7-11. The 360g pack is sold at Big C and HH Shopping Mall.

P.S. For fresh coffee addicts: the Village Bar in Baan Kwai near the Novotel has just opened a Coffee Shop - great coffee...

We stopped off at the big G Supermarket by the crazy railway crossing to stock up on bottled water on the way to Big C, and found Khao Shong on sale there - sorted until they improve their recipe. :D

You shouldn't have much bother finding that coffee Big Boy. They used to sell it at Tesco, so perhaps they were just out of stock when you tried. I've also seen it at the HH Shopping Mall and the G Market by the rail crossing.

I also use the same brand sometimes, usually bought at Makro in the form of little sachets, but not 3 in 1.

You can control the amount of time it takes to filter through by adjusting the tightness of the inner section that screws on. The loser you make it, the quicker the water will filter through, but your coffee will also be weaker.

I use the same sort of filter with Douw Egberts coffee and I love it. I've had the filter for about 15 years and still going strong. :D :thumb:

Talking about Vietnamese coffee, is there anywhere serving it in HH or CA?

Can you buy instant Vietnamese coffee?
