Is it true that Mobile phone numbers in Thailand must now add 8.
Like 01 will become 081
04 will become084 and so on.
Overseas calling number 661 would become 6681.
Can you help.
Many thanks

Looking at it briefly, it seems that the change from 9 to 10 digit numbers on mobiles is scheduled for Sept 1st.
So, instead of calling 01 123 4567, numbers will have to be prefixed with 08.
So, 08 112 345 67. And 09 123 4567 becomes 08 912 345 67.
Hope that makes sense. As I hate and don't own a mobile myself, I suggest all readers confirm the above for themselves. But that's my understanding.

Lomu (top o' the marning to ya) is right but don't go changing numbers yet. Hopefully there will a transition period of at least six months.
The fact is that Thailand (and other countries in the developing world) is running out of numbers.
A slightly more worrying issue at the moment is more widesrpead. That is that the whole world is running out of IP addresses. The new scheme being introduced involves a squaring of the current number system.
There will then be no need for phone number at all as your phone (along woth all the other electronic gadgets that you have) will have it's own IP address and you will 'phone a person or a business rather than a number.

I have a thai sim which i only use when in LOS. Will this transistion automatically take place even though i am not there most of the year with that sim on the network over there?
My number starts with 06 will i add an 8 to that for people to contact me, or is only for calls out of LOS.

Lately I've noticed problem with calling to Thailand from my home country. Sometimes it just ends suddenly, sometimes it says "there is no acknowledgement of your a... number."
And this has happened with many numbers. I don't if it's only been this past week or will these problems continue.
Have to wait and see.
Anyone else had same problems lately?

This is still happening, and it pisses me off
Do anyone knows why
