I would imagine anything that comments on anything that the junta doesn't like at the moment is a prime target for the censorship hammer. The Post could be just covering its arse to keep publishing, as this forum has to.

It seems like a good time to add this timely article here ...

A brief guide to keeping yourself safe online as the government cracks down on dissent
In many countries around the world, both ostensibly democratic and not, providers of communications services are often coerced to support the views of the incumbent political entities and to suppress opposing views. This suppression not only involves the censorship of communication but can also extend to the identification and tracking of individuals to facilitate legal action or worse.

Thailand is no different. As the government comes under more pressure from pro-democracy protests, the administration has already banned opposing media. It will not be long before internet dissidents are targeted.

So how can individuals continue to use the Internet as it was intended, as an open and universal communications system, without being tracked, analyzed, lied to, and threatened? It is possible but it is not as easy as it used to be. It is actually quite difficult and even requires some behavioral changes. But first, it is important to explain why.

Not that many of us would go to the protests, but I would consider a VPN as vital as a firewall/antivirus/malware protection for being online in Thailand at the moment.

Porn Hub Blocked in Thailand

Post by Lost »

Just read this on stickman. If true, this is a biggy. Not sure how much more of this the people of Thailand will take.

Someone in government has shares in a VPN company, maybe.

Your willingness to sacrifice in the name of public service is admirable, HHTel!

Well if mounting mountainsheep.com is banned, I shall cancel the Internet! :cuss:

Most porn sites have been blocked in Thailand for decades, this is nothing new.

Edit: more on the Pornhub story here: https://www.thaienquirer.com/20360/thai ... ustration/

That's what I always thought. I never read about complaints, so I figured no one cared. I was quite surprised at the uproar over PornHub.

Thai Government Blocking Blogspot Photos?

Post by Ratsima »

I have a personal photo blog on Blogspot. Now and then I've seen that the Thai Ministry of Digital Economy and Society seems to block some or all of the photos I've posted there. This morning I put up a new blog post and every single image, when viewed singly on a separate web page, came out like this:

It's back to normal now, but it sure is an odd feeling to see your own stuff blocked like this.

Out of curiosity, what were the photos of? Any Govt or Royal buildings and the like?

Are the same pics posted elsewhere, still up?

Scary really.

These are holiday and travel photos. Nothing the slightest bit sensitive. Like this one:

Thailand's great firewall is unlikely to be sophisticated enough to autonomously cherry-pick what it censors, so it will just blanket block things from time to time.

A VPN will get rid of those annoying Thai ISP censorship messages that are appearing more and more frequently these days.
