My son overstayed about the same amount. Went to Laos after getting a new passport (previous one lost) the weekend before the banning restrictions came in and cleared it with the 20,000 baht (max at the time). However, when he presented himself at immigration, they could find no record of him. He didn't exist! Consequently they asked him to guess when he was last legal and settled on around 3,000 days overstay. He stayed legal after that but pointed out to me how much he'd saved on immigration fees over the years.

Wouldn't work now of course, and he's since moved back to the UK.

Surely, didn't they have a fire in that time period, or am I thinking of somewhere else?

If it is Geronimo at least I know his real name now. Always knew him as 'horizontal' as he spent more time lying down than standing up. Whoever it is, I hope the transition back to the UK goes as smoothly as possible. Time in IDC will be absolutely no fun at all. Magnified if suffering from mental issues.

With his work history, monies in and taxes paid - if he were an immigrant in the UK, he would have been handed a British passport long before he went into overstay. Unfortunately, Thailand cares not if you've been a tax payer for 1 year nor 20 years...

... you are still just a foreigner.

Poor fella. Probably got nothing to go back to. Job opportunities will be scarce. He is about to embark on an incredibly tough journey.

I assume they mean that he’s been delinquent since the Thai year 2054?

Straying off subject a bit, but don't we all pay taxes? VAT, fuel, smoking, road tax - I could go on, but we are not living tax free in Thailand.

It's funny, but I considered tax, income tax. In every country you pay VAT, fuel, smoking and alcoholic drink taxes.
So you must admit that you are robbed legally worldwide.
