Cinema
Went in yesterday to have a look.
Four films showing: Three were Thai films, one with English subtitles.
Garfield 2 was on, dubbed in to Thai with no subtitles.
The girl behind the counter said she has heard many complaints from farang about the lack of English soundtrack films.
I would have thought that a big tourist town with a large expat community would have at least one screen with English.

Years ago in Bangkok, they used to have a 'Sound Track Room' in many theatres, so while everyone else was watching the movie in Thai in the main theatre, the original soundtrack would be used simultaneously in this sound track room. You obviously had to pay a bit of a premium, but it was still worth it at the time.
As the demand for movies with original sound tracks have escalated in recent years, they can now use the whole theatre (in Bangkok), but I don't see why they can't re-introduce this concept in the provinces...

Each to his own but if you are only coming on vacation for a short while then enjoy what Thailand has to offer and don't sit inside a dark cinema for 2 hours, you can do that at home.
Instead, find the film you want on DVD for 100 Baht and take it home..................
However, if you are living in Thailand then cinema makes a nice break.
Just my opinion.

They do show English language movies, or rather the latest big Hollywood release. Miami Vice just came off a few days ago and was replaced by Garfield - although why this has been dubbed into Thai rather than the usual Thai subtitles is a strange one.
Don't expect all the latest western releases but they will usually show at least the latest big release, in English.
The Thai movies usually have English subtitles but occasionally don't - I've seen two or three really decent Thai movies recently. To be honest, the Thai film industry, like the rest of Asia, is really original and interesting, unlike most of the unimaginative, re-make crap that comes out of Hollywood these days.
I don't think it's that bad a place to spend a couple of hours.

I saw Fearless with Jet Li in Hua Hin. It come out over here 5 months later but all the Thai boxing section was cut in British cinemas, that was my favourite bit with how excited the thai people got when the muay thai fighter appeared. Have to wait for DVD.
Market Village=Lovely warm welcome, Bloody COLD viewing.

I personally found watching a film in a cinema in Thailand an experience.
From the standing up for the King at the beginning of the movie to the get them away from me dodgy fish flavoured snacks for the lady.
You can also sit in a bar at home but cant see many people stopping doing that in Thailand.

Last time I was up in Nong Ki, I bought a DVD of the original Garfield movie for my partner’s young son. I played it first with the Thai subtitles and it mildly entertained a couple of young children.
Later I realized it had a Thai soundtrack, so I put it on again for the kids. Within about five minutes I had about half the village around, they thought that a Thai speaking, ferang, cat was brilliant.
I had to play the damn thing for about four nights in a row, and it doesn’t even have English subtitles. We drank a lot of chang anyway!

I think BaaBaa is trying to prove that he's only 26 years old. I remember it well at cinemas in the UK having the National Anthem played at the start and at the end. Everybody trying to rush out of the cinemas during the credits so that they didn't have to stand for the Queen.standing up for the King at the beginning of the movie
