Good Restaurants in Hua Hin

Post by Scottish »

I have searched on the forum for up to date news on good restaurants in Hua Hin a lot of the posts are very old or maybe i am missing something ?

Anyone i would appreciate an update on good places to go, all types of cuisine as we are a group of 8 golfers , i had over the years done a few reports on Trip advisor but a lot have been removed due to places closing etc and all that is left is the one on the Royal Indian.

If anyone has some info on good places outwith the normal tourist haunts that would be appreciated.

That is a very big question. There are literally dozens of good restaurants. Much depends on individuals expectations. I have probably half a dozen 'favourite' eating places. Google has a list but of course doesn't include the smaller restaurants.

Go to Trip Advisor and look at the best restaurants in Hua Hin - it is pretty spot on. There are not too many restaurants that aren’t good.

First decide what kind of food you want to eat, what ambience you would like, what price you would like to pay. Once those decisions have been made you can look for appropriate restaurants.

I think I agree with the others. When I approved your post last night, Scottish, I thought what a BIG question.

Hua Hin has a lot of restaurants selling almost anything you can imagine. Most of them are at least acceptable, and many very good. The Hua Hin food scene also encompasses every conceivable budget,

You really need to state type of food, geographical area and budget. It then gets a lot easier to give you a meaningful answer.

For what it's worth, and to answer your question, my favourite is Shiva Indian Restaurant, which is mid-priced. We like it so much, my son got married there this year. However, I've seen reports where people say they hate it. A huge question, where people will always disagree with what others say - we all have different tastes.

A definition of 'normal tourist haunts' would also be useful e.g. if you're a sex tourist, normal might be considered Binthablock. However, Hua Hin Vineyard is a tourist attraction, well outside of Hua Hin, but the food they serve is excellent.

Best cheesecake I've ever had was at the Hua Hin Vineyard - pomegranate cheese cake.

Good selection of food at the Tamarind Market but so busy these days. Only open Thurs-Sun.

Welcome to the forum.

I attended a wedding dinner last week that was held at Loetje Supreme in Soi 94 and thought the food there was excellent. The chef even managed to make local beef taste pretty good! I’m not sure if they do Thai food but it’s certainly pretty good for western style food. I believe the chef is Dutch, it’s certainly run by a Dutch national.

Thank you for the reply and welcome, yes generally we have eaten around the Binthablock but just want to expand on this and get away from it some nights , out of the 8 seven will eat Thai food and anything else, one is more European but always finds something suitable, we have been to Shiva and thought it was excellent, I have heard soi 94 has good restaurants but have no idea where to go there, budget not really an issue but at the same time we dont want Michelin star prices especially with the current exchange rate!!
Moosmile has always been a favorite so something along these lines and we do tend to go to the steak house and Italian mid trip for a change

First thing is if you move away from Binthablock, both your food and drink bills will reduce considerably.

At the budget end are the food courts. Beer, certainly at Pae Mai (my preference these days) and Baan Khun Por is the loss leader, where it is less than 60฿ for a large bottle. A huge variety of very good food at budget prices as well + live entertainment. Very popular, especially at weekends.

Soi 94 has reasonably priced drinks (a lot less than Binthablock) plus a great variety of food choices. However, if you're venturing out to 94, you pass a load of decent places as you go along Petchkasem Road, and don't forget the eateries in both Market Village and Bluport.

Hua Hin has so much to offer, and you could be here for 6 months, and have something different every night. At the food court where my daughter-in-law works, I've counted more than 60 different food outlets on her level alone (there's an upstairs as well). Incredible choice. There's nothing wrong with the Binthablock area (apart from prices), but Hua Hin has so much more to offer. Pae Mai and Baan Khun Por are within easy walking distance of the centre. Just take the walk to either, and you'll be amazed what you walk past. Also, every Tuesday, Pae Mai has what is arguably the best market in Hua Hin (the one the Thais go to).

Jump on the Green bus to Khao Takiab. There are a lot of hidden treasures there as well. Just get off the bus and wander.

And on the way, stop off at Cicada Market at the weekend for decent food at reasonable prices.

Best Italian around Bintabaht is Roma. Nr Murphys Bar.
Original chefs and Staff from when Thomas the Golfer was there.
We always go there 2 or 3 times on our golf trips.

For the places I suggested, I've done a couple of little maps. As golfers, the walk shouldn't be too strenuous, but there's always Grab - even the furthest place shouldn't cost more than 150฿.

Pae Mai Food Garden

I've underlined the clock tower which is hopefully familiar, as a start point.

Baan Khun Por Food Court

Again, I've indicated the clock tower.

Cicada - a bit further out, and Tamarind is almost next door

Hopefully you know where Bluport is. That is shown as a start point. Cicada is also on the map.

If you are wine drinkers one of the biggest problems in Hua Hin is the price of a bottle of wine in restaurants. If you don't drink the local rubbish (Mon Clair, etc.) you will have to pay between 1,600 - 2,600 Baht for a reasonable wine even though the same wine can be bought in a shop for 600 Baht. The only restaurant I have found that sells decent wine for shop prices is "Wine Connection" in Bluport. They serve very good food and have extensive, excellent wine for less than 1,000 Baht per bottle.
