Train Chumphon to Hua Hin

Post by Kroli5 »

Hello,
we will be spending a few days in Chumphon (flying into Bangkok and then to Chumphon). We would like to get the train from either Chumphon or Bang Krut to Hua Hin on January 4th.
Is this recommended and if yes, how do we buy a ticket and find out the times please. Grateful for any suggestions, thank you!

You cant buy rail tickets online in Thailand, you have to physically go to the station to get one.

This timetable is relatively accurate for the southern route: https://www.seat61.com/Thailand.htm#Ban ... n_Thailand

Not all trains stop in Ban Krut.

Thank you all very much! The train sounds like the best option for us if we go all the way from Chumphon to Hua Hin. Great help

Just a word of warning, Thai Trains can run way behind schedule on a regular basis, and the northbound trains can be early morning ones.

Thank you GUS!
We are now in Chumphon and tried to get tickets on the 2nd Jan to Hua Hin (12.46 Express). It is fully booked every day! We can only get the very early train at 7 am (arrival 12 in H.H.). We were told to get to the station by 6.30 am to purchase ticket only on the day of departure. I have read that in one of the comments, you can only physically buy tickets and not online? Thank you to every one once again for all help🙏🌈

That’s right - 7:01am northbound train from Chumphon is 3rd class. No bookings for 3rd class, 3rd class tickets only sold at the station, are not sold until 30 minutes before departure time and you will not get a seat number. As you have discovered, all trains, and other transport, are at full capacity during and near Hollidays so be prepared for ‘standing room only’. But if really fast about jumping aboard you might be lucky. Thais prefer cars at front of the train so maybe the last cars can be more apt to have a seat but do not sit in the roped off section at back of the last car as it is reserved for the monks

Plus you will have far more chance of getting a seat by boarding at Chumphon. At Bang Krut The train can likely already be full. If you have one of those small folding canvas stools it might be handy. The 3rd class fare will probably only be ± ฿100

Thank you so much for all your kind help.In the end we got a well recommended driver to pick us up. Reading your comments, I feel rather relieved we didn' go 3rd class on the train. The express at 12.45 was appealing....
