This is not about europtomiste, can we please get back to Tom's travels? Provoking europtimiste into a response he might regret is unnecessary.

The comments of Migrant and Nereus are insulting. Yes I have friends not same as on this forum. Threatening a friend soi dog is insulting for this friend. I do not expect any apology from those two.

I was thinking what a well written, informative and entertaining thread this was... and no arguments, that was yesterday. Oh well.

Still a good read, well done Uncle Tom. Please keep it going. I’ll be trying out some of your tips early March.

Back to topic..

Moloko

Location: On the main drag (Phet Kasem Rd) about 100m south of the main traffic lights (junction with 61) on the west side.

As far as I can make out, Moloko means 'milk' in Russian, however there is nothing remotely Russian themed about this place. The bar has been owned by a sociable Australian called Rob for the past few months, who has given it a refit. Did I prefer it as it was? Hmm.. the new bar is a bit too high to sit at comfortably - the old one was nicer.

Rob's objectives are laudable however - he wants to 'get a good crowd in' and create a social hub. The bar offers a combination of drinks and light meals and the pricing is very attractive - a large Leo and an omelette set me back 160.

This is not a girly bar, but one of Rob's staffers is one of those girls who looks drop dead gorgeous without a drop of makeup. The devil on one shoulder told me to go into seduction mode, while the angel on the other reminded me of Harold Steptoe's catchphrase - I heeded the angel..

Should you join Rob's crowd? - Why not..?

My efficient room maid normally spots when I leave my room for breakfast and has things sorted by the time I return. Yesterday I was up a little earlier than usual and she missed me, so I went for a stroll to get out of her way.

Heading past the Hilton I crossed over 61 and headed down the southern end of Naresdamri.

The large massage shop on the corner of 61 is currently scaffolded and undergoing a major gut out. Next door the glass fronted shop with white interior is still empty, and after that the shop that used to be a useful little newsagent and stationery store still has its shutters down – at least five years now. Some Thai property owners are really bad at re-letting.

Beyond that things are little changed – the massage shops down here are all over priced (I am shameless when it comes to checking the prices and then being seen to be shaking my head..) and further down, besides the odd hotel, a little restaurant with an Italian theme to its menu - but with prices on the blackboard that are only exceeded by La Grappa.

Further on the town’s token gay bar, New Guys with rainbow flag resplendent outside (actually, I think there’s another one in that little maze of bars next to the Hilton) opposite which some 20ft hoarding conceals a large new development on the seaward side, what? - I don't know. Then past the little lane that leads to Soi 80, a German Bier Garten type establishment that I might review at some point, and finally the chocolate factory, before the road joins the main drag.

Heading back on the main road towards the centre, I passed a photo shop that I can recommend for visa/passport photos and then, perhaps 75m along, I came to Dada Nails and Massage.

As I’ve no plans to make an entrance at New Guys, my nails can stay ‘au naturel’ but I stopped for a foot massage.

Clean fresh stylish shop, competent friendly older lady, who never once looked at the clock behind her yet nevertheless came within a minute of one hour exactly.

Cost 250, tip 40

A good job done, and for the ladies (and anyone else..) the nail department looked professional and competent.

~~~
I noted in an earlier post the relative lack of ladyboys in the town. Well, some have returned. A ladyboy massage shop has recently opened in Selakam, complete with lurid lighting reminiscent of the Amsterdam canal brothels.
I won't be posting a detailed review..!
Been enjoying your roving reports Tom.
Haven't been in the center of town for many years now and it reminds me of the days we used to spend almost every night there!
Yes, all of a sudden it was Ladyboy central last night. One of them looked like she might be the new centre back for Man City before the window shuts tomorrow night. She was enormous!
The posh Italian restaurant you saw is Carlo's
Good for you price checking massage shops, they think because they're opposite Centara they can charge more(probably get away with it sometimes)
And the vacant shop is still To Let because unless someone pays the owner their exorbitant asking rent then they will get precisely zero baht per year for 5 years and counting. One thing's for sure, they'll never learn!
Not just one of them either - I think perhaps we should dub the lineup at that shop: The Hua Hin 1st XV
Also there are a couple of very tall ladyboys at the former Moonlight Bar on Soi Selekam.
I wandered down Soi Selakam last night, past the lilac neons where the rugby team's prop forward was drawing lazily on a fag, and found myself here:
Limelight Bar
Location: Soi Selakam, on the five way junction adjacent to El Murphys - few bars are harder to miss.
Some people see this bar's obsession with the colour green and assume it's an Irish bar, but it's actually a Scottish bar, albeit with strong Celtic sympathies.
And colour obsessed it certainly is - walls and ceiling pale green, tablecloths and cushions green, even the clock, mousemat and waste bin are green.
That quirk aside though, it's actually a very convivial bar. It serves draft Singha and Leo by the pint (100) and serves good pub grub, claiming to offer the best full English breakfast in town. It also has some rooms available.
A good place to get a sensibly priced pint and a bite in the centre of town.
Mod Edit: Tom, your post from yesterday about Hash House Harriers was moved to the Hash House Harrier thread under Events & Activities, where it belongs. There is no need to post yet again here.
There was a little drama in a bar I frequent last night - the mamasan had lost her purse.
Prime suspect was a semi alcoholic girl who has form for putting drinks on customer's tabs without authority. She denied it - loudly - perhaps too loudly. Channelling Hamlet, someone observed that 'The lady doth protest too much'. The temperature was rising.
As a child I discovered the ability to hypnotise the family pets, but I've always been very loathe to practise on people. However there didn't seem to be anything to lose on this occasion. Sitting the mamasan down I lowered my specs and stared intently into her eyes, very lightly dusting her cheek with the palm of my hand. She didn't go fully under.
Where did you last see your purse? I asked. 'Upstairs' - she said quietly. Then she shrieked: 'It's upstairs!' - and rushed to get it.
So everything resolved, aside from some effusive apologies to a now tearful bar girl..
~~~

Anyway happy Groundhog Day! As I crawled out of my burrow into the sun this morning, I saw my shadow very clearly - sorry..

"Prime suspect was a semi alcoholic girl who has form for putting drinks on customer's tabs without authority."

Who's authority? The customer's or the Mamasan?!

Jokes aside.... what an utterly shameless thing to do. And so incredibly short sighted. As if a customer would return if they genuinely thought they had been ripped off like this!

But then again when you see the Thai 'business is bad so put the prices up' philosophy first hand you can believe this sort of shit actually happens!

As regards the hypnosis..... I'm impressed!
