HH Social Rugby Club

Post by troopie »

Someone mentioned (in a 'locked' topic, now relegated to some deep, dark dungeon within the HHAD purgatory) opening a proper rugby pub, devoid of BJ hookers (a la 'Goanna's) & other touristy things. Well, lacking the cash to open my own place, I tried out Crawford's HH tonight for the Oz-Boks game (I've seen better defences with a white flag flying overhead) & although Crawford's is a bit pricy (by Thailand standards), it does seem suitable for watching the great game.
Therefore, if anyone is REALLY interested in joining a social rugby club (i.e., for watching/debating rather than playing), please visit the website shown below & make your willingness known.
I am ALWAYS interested in hearing from other fans of the great game who are interested in watching (at a bar or anywhere with a suitable fridge-full of beer) the oval ball. There is no reason why we can't start a Hua Hin branch of the Outsiders, just as we had in Tokyo!
Anyone interested, just aim your mouse at asiarugby.tk & get in touch via the forum or the Yahoo email group.

There now follows a minutes silence for the Bok's defence -- which was obviously stillborn!

Seems very colonial Troopie - no forum area at all for Heineken Cup!

I agree about Crawfords Troopie. I also thought Berny's was a good venue when I watched the six nations there a couple of years ago.

Both Ken at Crawfords and Berny were very accommodating as far as making sure that rugby would be on when I asked about it.

I would be glad to meet up for a beer and watch some rugby when I'm next in HH.

Going back to asiarugby.tk, I think you'd get more people posting if there was a section on European club rugby or even a section each for Celtic rugby (now the Magners League), English rugby (Guinness Premiership), and the Heineken Cup. You only need to look at sites like Planet Rugby or the BBC rugby forums to see the interest i.e. - lots.

I would have posted this on asiarugby.tk but my account is not yet activated.

BTW, your avatar looks like a Gren cartoon; Gren being the archtypal rugby cartoonist. You may find this interesting:

Feedback appreciated

Post by troopie »

Thanks for the feedback, guys -- I really do appreciate it.

The reason there isn't much Euro-centric stuff (though there is a 6 nations forum) on Asia.tk is -- lack of demand!
I started that thing because I & my Southern Hemisphere mates were feeling left out. The Northern hemisphere has plenty of forums scattered around the net but whilst there are a few for Australia, for South Africa & even for NZ (who?), there weren't many for the South & East.

If there is customer interest, then there will be a response. Similarly, the Yahoo Group, Asia Rugby, also welcomes those unfortunates from the Northern Hemisphere. Rugby is rugby -- hell, I've even watched Rugby League when I've been desperate -- though the doctor say's I'm recovering!

If you want to talk about Northern Hemisphere rugby, feel free to do so on the Yahoo group & if members want a NH section on the forum, it'll be there.

Oh, & I might not be downtown to watch this Saturday's Boks game, as I hate to see a man cry -- especially if it's me!

Love to watch the game myself. Crawfords does seem the best place.
Why does abc asia pacific now blank out the screen on every tri nations game? Bastards.

Not ABC -- Murdoch!

Post by troopie »

ABC doesn't have any choice -- bloody Murdoch has the rugby market sewn up!

You can watch live rugby on ABC but you have to get a special card (free) from ABC. However, don't hold your breath, as they take forever to get back to you! It seems ABC isn't allowed to show international rugby inside Oz, so you have to prove you live outside.

So don't blame ABC -- blame bloody Murdoch!
Oh, you can watch Oz rugby league OK -- if you're desperate!

The point I was making about the Euro stuff Troopie is really to do with the fact that you've linked the idea of the Outsiders to HHAD and so some of the people who will be led there will do so from HHAD - like me. I don't post on any other rugby forums because I can't be arsed but it would be interesting to post on an Asian site purely because of the possibilities of get togethers as you suggested. Trouble is - I don't have much to say about Southern Hemisphere rugby as I so rarely watch it here in the UK (my house is Sky-less) but could contribute on the Heineken & Magners Leagues as I will actually be going to the games. The Heineken Cup is a big competition these days, after all.

No problem, me old pongo mate! Different strokes, as the Yanks say.

The reason I use the Asiarugby link as my signature is so that I can attract (or try to) rugby fans resident in Asia & especially resident in HH, as many of the HHAD community are. However, as I say on the email group homepage, talking about Asia rugby won't keep anyone very busy, & so other subjects are welcome. I set up SH-oriented forums because I'm from the SH. However, if folks want to talk about NH rugby -- be my guest! Rugby is a social game & although I know very little about the European game (apart from some drunken parties at Rosslyn Park & at certain Paris/Marseilles rugby places), folks who do are welcome.

We all want rugby to be an international game -- not just the Old Boys Network that excluded Japan from the RWC hosting! I'd like to encourage Asian rugby & chat amongst rugby fans in Asia, but if folks from further afield want to join in -- the doors open.

Anyway, I'm off to watch some Currie Cup rugby that I downloaded from the Net. Diwana.org is a damn'd good site if you'd care to see some SH rugby!

I've posted this on Asiarugby as well but could you get the SA-Cavaliers series on that site?

I think that's a terrific idea, Ryan, and I wish you the very best of luck with it.
If I were 20+ years younger...
And that's your problem!

Wiki says that Thailand is ranked 60th in the world and has over 60 clubs with more than 16,000 registered players, so you never know.
This is the way

Have to 2nd DM's post - especially regarding the 20 years!! Well, 15 with me as DM is, well you know....

Anyway - there's a few on here who will at least join you in the support of the game played in heaven, although the majority prefer Wendyball.

There's plenty of guys in HH who will not have a clue to the rules of the game, but want the fitness and social side of things. I believe there are several 5 a-side football teams, but how about (as a start) 7 a-side "touch" rugby? You might get guys interested........

To all Wendyballers "Touch" Rugby simply means we play to your style....... you know, for beginners in sport. :duck: :D

I'd be in for any game of touch football, I was still playing (I'm 55) touch footie on a regular basis in Singapore up until about 6 months ago. I know a few other dudes that would be interested.

I`m surprised at you Pharvey, you above all people should know that they are "laws" not rules. :tsk:
