Foo is a bit like knowing 'a fing or free', common in many accents even in Ostrayia.
Re: Odd Words in the English Language
Just came across the word 'Oleaginous' used recently by the American media to describe U.A. VP Pence as being Oily, greasy.. Falsely or affectedly earnest; persuasively suave ... or a Yes man for D.J. Trump

I've just posted about panic buying and stockpiling. For some reason the word 'curmudgeonly' springs to mind...

A word I know but would be hard pressed to define without context. Not a word I would use in reports during my previous incarnation.dtaai-maai wrote: ↑Sun Mar 29, 2020 7:22 pm I've just posted about panic buying and stockpiling. For some reason the word 'curmudgeonly' springs to mind...

Yes. It was new to me as well a few months back and picked it up on one of these nature shows I listen to. Beeiairy would have really made more sense.
Edit: Apis is the Latin word for bee, so there you go.

Being a Brit, I know the answer you’re looking for, but as a young lad, every Sunday a man would drive down out street in a small van selling various seafood including winkles, so I guess to people who collected them were also winkle pickers?dtaai-maai wrote:Brits will know this one, but I wonder if our overseas cousins will?
