Brahminism?
Brahminism?
I know that Brahminism made its way into Thailand but I believe the Thai version is more like a form of Hinduism than the Brahminism that came between Vedism and Hinduism; meaning it has more to do with the gods of the Gita [Siva, Vsnu, Ganesha] than the gods of the Vedas [Agni, Rudra, Varuna, Mitra] (I apologize if this does not make sense). Are there any Brahmin priests in Hua Hin or who can be called to Hua Hin?
I can find so little information about them, and admit this has made me all the more interested.
I read somewhere that they do house blessings when a new house is built, but I do not know how accurate this is? Do they have any sort of presence in the area? If so what is it that they do? Do they have temples or training centers? Are there any books (in English) on the subject?
My questions are all for curiosities sake, mind you. Once again, I thank you in advance!

As of mid August I am on vacation via traveling around the globe and I am not returning until the end of November (I have no Internet access until I return). Have fun!

I think you will find books on the subject but maybe not in English in Hua Hin. There is a Brahma Shrine off Petchakasem going South from Hua Hin shortly after the railway crossing flyover. Probably 5 or six KM from Hua Hin Town centre.
They may be able to point you in the right direction as maybe these sites will.

I will have to go visit when I am in town again, thank you very much for pointing it out, I appreciate it! I think we have seen the signs for it, is it the one tucked behind a few buildings on the side of the road (they look like shops on the bottom and dwellings on the top?)?Guess wrote:I think you will find books on the subject but maybe not in English in Hua Hin. In many Thai celebrations there is a mix of Brahmin and Buddhist priest saying prayers. The most famous Brahmin shrine is in Bangkok next to the Erawan hotel. It's called Erawan Shrine.

Re: brahma
That sounds very interesting! Thank you very much for sharing. We have thought of putting up a spirit house but have been unsure if it would be an insult (because we are not Thai) or how to go about doing it?russ wrote:we have just had a brahma come to our land we had 2 sprit houses where the house is going to be so we had to build a new platform on the other side of land then the brahma came and blessed them then they could be moved . he didnt live in a temple he lived in the middle of the jungle in a thai teak house

Yes, I have seen that one. I believe it was attacked just before we were there a few months back.Bamboo Grove wrote:In many Thai celebrations there is a mix of Brahmin and Buddhist priest saying prayers. Fortunately, the shrine is back now.
