Smartphone repair shop

Post by thecolonel »

Yes there are many many in Hua Hin, but which is a good one!

I have a xiaomi phone which are rare in Thailand so I need a Mr all around fix it guy or gal.

The on/off power button has completely stopped working as it just has no flex in it any longer. Just need them to get inside it and bend the metal part so it connects again

Bluport or MV would suit but which kiosk please??

Thanks in advance

“Little Phone / AK Telecom / Market Village” – that’s what it says on their business card, together with mobile phone number 092-6169009.
Located on third floor, near escalator, and near an exit area (I think).

They successfully repaired an old LG G3 by ordering new parts from Bangkok.
Tried other shops (kiosks) there for other problems on other phones; went back following day to be told they could not fix it.

Cheers JohnD, I'm heading over there now.

Yes they are next to exit, South side, opposite side to the Banks and at the Eastern end (Phetkasem Road end as opposed to Homepro end)

They fixed my power on/off button(and volume down button) in about 10 minutes. 100 baht. Happy with that

They've also hopefully fixed my HP laptop as I was getting an error message about a cooling fan and it kept closing programmes down. I think he cleaned the fan so fingers crossed that does it

I dealt with a helpful young lad(Sky) but his older boss who fixed my phone is very grumpy!

Great tip thanks, will use them again Image

Your mention of the laptop cooling fan reminds me of an interesting learning experience I had with an old desktop computer. The computer cooling fan was making high speed whizzing noises shortly after start up, struggling to cope with high temperatures somewhere?

I checked the internet – apparently it was dirty fan that needed cleaning, or a BIOS issue. On opening up the computer case, I found that I had to lift a large heavy CPU heat sink in order to access the cooling fan for cleaning.

After lifting the heat sink and on close inspection, the cooling fan was perfectly clean. At the same time, I could see the newly exposed CPU. I quickly checked the internet again as I could see a blob of like ‘broken glue’ on top of the chip. This turned out to be “thermal paste”. I rushed to the local computer shop to buy a new tube of thermal paste (something I had never heard of before). Carefully cleaned the top of chip, applied thermal paste, and closed computer case.

On start up, the loud fan whizzing sounds had disappeared. My real problem was not a dirty cooling fan but that the thermal paste had deteriorated and needed replacement. It was not transferring sufficient heat from CPU to heat sink, and the fan was operating at high speed to try to correct overheating.

Some old laptops may have similar thermal paste issues leading to overheating, etc?
Apparently smartphones do not use thermal paste to aid cooling (added to keep subject on topic).

This is interesting and useful info, as I'm far from convinced this fan/cooling issue is sorted(even tho I've not had the error message again..... yet!)

Cheers
