Cha Am Webcams

Post by Ratsima »

I have upgraded the Cha Am webcam to 720p. It still faces roughly east at the ocean. The old 480p camera now faces north. Here's the link:

I'm only at the site of these webcams a few days each month. If they go down they generally stay down until I can get there and fix things.

I get both. Big image out to sea and a smaller image beneath it, to the north.

Cha Am Time-Lapse Videos

Post by Ratsima »

For each webcam I encode a time-lapse video once every 24 hours. Sometimes they're interesting. Sometimes they're amusing. Often, they're boring. Have a look:

On the first one (sea view) at 33 seconds I'm curious about what that light was going straight up out of the ocean (far right). I guess it could be a depth perception problem and it was actually a shooting star traveling horizontally and not vertically.

That's Venus. It's a bright morning star these days; bright enough to be captured by the camera.

Thanks for this. I regularly look at your sea view cam as my weekender is just a few km south of there. I'm curious as to what brand/type of camera and your wifi service in that location as I'm interested in doing something similar on my balcony later in the year. Would you kindly share detauls, thanks.

The camera is an Elp 1080p USB camera that I bought through Ali Express. The images I capture once every four minutes are 720p. It runs off a Raspberry Pi 4. The software is just a bunch of shell scripts that I wrote myself.

The mountain camera is a generic 480p USB webcam.

Here’s a link to a page that has both cameras and both time lapse videos.
