Calling all Expats living in HH

Post by Dartmoor »

Hello to all those that live in Hua Hin and use this forum; i am coming over from Engalnd for an extended stay / travelling / visiting freinds & family (when they are in HH) in September and as I am going to be based in HH it would great to meet up with any expat who actually lives there so i can get to see the 'real' HH and not just the 'tourist' HH- can you help???

Have been looking at lots of websites about HH and can't see a HH expat social club, other than that there appears to have been one about 4 years ago-or am I wrong ?? if there is one, can someone let me know the current contact details or does any one have any sugguestions about where i could meet up with other expats on a regular basis.

I do enjoy playing darts, even been in a local pub team, but not that good & just enjoy the game and have even played snooker / pool sometimes.

As I enjoy dining out & socialising, would anyone be interested in meeting up on a regular basis, say once a week (give or take a few days), if the event was arranged & hosted for them- could be with or without partners-I look forward to your comments.

Less than 7 weeks to go before i visit for my first time, so it would be great to have some feed back during this period- hope to meet up with you in HH.

Bye for now,

As far as I know there is no 'social club' but there are regular organised darts and pool nights - Tuesdays and Wednesdays respectively for the leagues that are run here, but they (generally) aren't serious if you wanted to find a team that can accommodate you for the duration of your stay (some teams have more than enough players, some struggle to get a team). Hua Hin has a relatively small centre where most of the bars and restaurants are located so it's quite easy to stroll around and check out the various expat haunts - a few of the older established ones are Berny's Inn, which is the centre of the HH Golf Society, Billy's Bar, Jungle Juice and U-Turn, plus a few of the slightly newer expat haunts being Johnnie Walkers & Dick's Office, SugarCane and Crawfords; there are others but half the fun of Hua Hin is exploring and finding places that suit you! You can find all these and more on the bar map. I hope that helps and you find the right company and bars/restaurants for you. :thumb:

Well you can't do better than HHAD for meeting people.

Years ago the town was a smaller place with fewer expats so we all knew each other. Today its far bigger with its own little social groups and divisions, as mentioned above head to some of the expat bars and you're bound to bump into a few of us.

Hi Wanderlust & buksida,

Thank you for your in put and am sure that once i get into the scene that i will meet you & other expats, I do realise that half the fun is finding out for myself but just wondered where the best places were to start as "girlie bars" are not really my scene even though i like the pleasures of the opposite sex so to speak.

When i come to HH i will check out the places that Wanderlust has kindly recommended but if anyone has any more ideas then it will be great to hear form you.

Also do any of you know whether there are any places that do regular enterainment or theme ( say Thai food or Thai dancing etc) nights as i do enjoy these sort of events.

Once i settle in I am quite happy to arrange some sort of social get together, if any expats would be interested as i do enjoy doing this of thing and it is a great way of making friends, so do let me know if this appeals to you.

Bye for now & thanks again for the advice,

:)

Hello Dartmoor.
Don't forget Cha-am. 25 Km's north of Huahin and with a friendlier ex-pat atmosphere, you and yours will find a "true Thai experience."
Not many girlie bars here. Come and savour the flavour.

Remember that it's you who are discussing the bar scene.

I think you may need to go further than Cha Am for that, unless you will be staying in a one room concrete hovel with a family of eight next to the railway track - but you could do that in Hua Hin!

Hi Dartmoor,

If you wanna shoot some pool and play darts your welcome at Johnnie Walkers, we have 2 teams in both darts and pool leagues and play for FUN! Get in touch when you are due to arrive. As far as a social club, the Golf Society has many members and is a great place to meet people.

Look forward to meeting

Hi JW,

Thank you for your reply and I look forward to meeting you all when I come over to HH and will get in touch again when i know the exact dates that I am due to arrive.

As it has been sugguested to join the social side of the golf clubs, are there any particular ones that you would recommend as i believe there are 7 gold clubs in HH??

Also do you know of any Internet cafes I can visit so I can keep in touch with the outside world, so to speak??

Looking forward to hearing from more of you that live in HH,

Have a great weekend and cheers for now,

The golf clubs are not particularly good for socializing, but HH Golf Society is a club for people playing golf on the different courses run by different golf clubs. The Society, meeting at Berny's Inn, will be a good place to meet people to socialize and play golf with.

You will find many Internet cafés when you're here. Don't worry!

There are many Internet cafes and many bars that offer free acccess for customers. Sugar Cane is one of them but there are others. Some people would argue that this is the outside world so there may be no need for paying money to an Internet cafe.

BTW I have know many people from Dartmoor, some have now been transfered to Parkhurst or Rampton and some of have been released and living in other palces being supervised by parole officers.

Hi Gutte,

Thank you for your in put and I will certainly check that venue out when I come over to HH in early September.

I do apprecate all the other replies and useful information & look forward to meeting as many of you HH expats as possible, if you would like to meet up just let me know nearer to the time.

The reason why i am happy to arrange meetings for expats in HH is that i have over 20 years experince in acting as a social host and would be very pleased to do so when i come over if anyone is interested??

Any way it is just an idea and looking forward to saying hello to as many of you that live in Hua Hin and please keep in touch.

Kindest regards,

Dartmoor. :)

Hi Guess & Splitlid,

Thank you for messages but you have the wrong Dartmoor ( have never been there or anywhere else mentioned); whilist the type of Dartmoor you are refering too is about 25 miles from where i live, I am in an area called Dartmoor-hence me choosing this forum name and never thought of that association-well done for spotting this.

My current location is ideal as there is a mixture of town, city, countryside and beaches all within a short drive so that it offers variety as a social host.

May be we could meet up for a beer sometime when I am in HH.

Guess-thanks for that about the internet cafes and will certainly check out Sugar Cane's when i come over.

Thanks everyone for your messages to date and keep them coming as it has been a great help so far.

Bye for now :D :D :D
